But Toyota has to realize that it can't go into the truck marlet wiht 4/5 truck. The T-100 was a bomb. Not enough power and too large to be a compact, not large enough to be a real truck.
The Tundra is very nice, but still a 4/5 truck to most truck buyers. NO 3/4 ton, no 1 ton. No diesel. IF Toyota wants to crash the party, it needs to build a real heavy duty 3/4-1 ton truck with a full size wheelbase and full size cabin for to sit 5 consttuction guys comfortably. It needs to provide a gas guzzling engine and a diesel capable of 650 pounds of torque and 350 horses. It has to provide a strong manny tranny and an excellent auto. 4x4 and off road capable.
Toyota makes diesels for sale aorund the world. but they need to make a BIG diesel...perhaps a 6.8 liter (each maker uses their own size and do not overlap engine size) diesel. Get a contract with Caterpillar to design and sub contract teh dieself engien. No bnetter name than Cat or Cummins ansd since Cummins is with Dodge, get Cat. (GM failed to get Caterpillar interested and went to Izuzu for Dmax) The CAt brand equity will offset the redneck "buy Americna" crowd and help overcome the "won't buy a Jap car" mentality.

It would take some serious creations to truly compete with the truck market. I love the look of a Ford F-150, but they do NOT have the reliability that Toyota has. I have no idea what is making Toyota hold back on making big trucks like Fords, but if they did, and still kept their reliability, man they would make out like bandits.
