Toyota Vehicle Exchange

Has anyone here participated in the Toyota Vehicle Exchange program? Everytime I go in they tell me how bad they need '06 4Runners and that mine is a prime candidate for trade in. Are there any real incentives, better finance rates, etc to doing this vs. just trading in, or keeping my Runner?

It's hooey. They're just trying to get you to spend money on a new rig.

Agreed!! I picked up a 2010 tundra new and shortly after the dealership was sending me letters saying that they're in need of 2010 used tundras and they wanted to give me "top dollar" for my used tundra. Now they are doing the same thing for my tacoma.

Sales tactics... nothing more.

I got the same kind of letter for my '05 tundra a couple of months ago saying they wanted my year/model. 9years after I bought it!

Same here. Ive taken it in for service and shortly after I get a phone call from the sales manager. He states he saw my 4runner in service and he has been looking all over for a 07 Sport cause he has a buyer and needs it really really bad. He then proceeds to tell me what a deal he would give on a 2014 4runner if I would be willing to "help him out" by trading mine in. Its just BS sales tactics.

Just got a extended over mileage warranty proposition letter yesterday for anything that breaks/quits on t4r. SHREDURE.

Anytime I go to the dealer for items, I pull it right up to the front window for them to see, and no one tries to soliced me for a trade, lol. I guess they can see I have to much time and money invested in it to want to trade.

Well, dealers absolutely do need late model used cars and SUVs, because with the economy the way it is, a lot of people can't afford $35+ for a new one.

It seems like even KBB hasn't kept up with the times. When we sold my wife's Grand Vitara in 2012 (great timing because it was literally about 2 weeks before Suzuki announced they were pulling out of the US car market) the KBB value showed around $8000 and I was getting letters from dealers offering to buy it for $8500.

So I listed it on CL and sold it in about 2 weeks for $10,200. :D

Used cars are in high demand, and of course we know T4Rs are some of the best selling used vehicles out there.

Dealer Needs

This sounds like the banks. Park some serious dough at your local bank, in a couple days, you get a phone call. "You should take advantage of our investment deals", etc. You are not going to make any money with a bank.

I usually trade, if the price is right. When trading my 2008 SR5-4WD, they gave me 24500.00 for it 4 years later. Of course, you pay sales tax on the net difference.
This time, I traded a 2012 Honda Pilot EXL, got $28K for it on trade on a 2014 SR5 4WD.
We and everyone else, get letters from dealers, they will give you a phantom sum over list price for your ride. I find that most sales rep in dealerships don't know much, they hire a lot of warm bodys. They just want to get you in the door. With all the info available today, you can always do your own deal, find a dealer that will give it to you. The loyalty factor to us, the end user, is a flat ZERO, IMO.
