Toytec boss

Seems about right on the price. I just bought a used set of BOSS coil overs from a Tacoma and they seem very well built. Nice that they are adjustable with them on the truck.

I'm ordering the UCA and Superflex within the month, so i essentially will have a sourced kit from individual pieces.

Or they have their Bilstein coil over kit which combined with light racing uca's is about $1225.

Since I'm not a hard core off road guy this might be a better choice.

Personally, I'd go with the full kit. Bilsteins are cool, but you will always want the better kit afterwords. lol. The toytec will offer better ride and control characteristics. Not enough price difference to go with the cheaper Bilsteins IMO.

Wait till November 27-dec 1st and Demello offroad Is having a 20% off on Icon series suspensions which at stage 1 retails for about $1600-$1800 and with the discount is about $1200 so it's the same price but a better built suspension and all the guys running it around here seem to love it. Adds 3" of lift. There's a thread around here talking about the sale Id look into it if I were you

what are the boss shocks then? i thought they were 5100s?

At first I was going to have a very smartass remark about using google or something. But after examining Toytec's site... it appears they have new shock that is now being offered on the Boss Setup.

I would assume the rear shock is supposed to be as beefy as their front coilover assembly?

My Boss kit is 6 months old and it came with 5100's. I like the front struts/shocks whatever they're called. They ride "very niiiiice"

EDIT: i am talking about the front shock only

thats my point though...everyone says the BOSS is so nice and better than everything, but it just seems to me that these amazing boss shocks are essentially just 5100s and their standard spring. so i am trying to figure out why people spend $870 on a set of $170 5100s and $170 springs that are preassembled!!

thats my point though...everyone says the BOSS is so nice and better than everything, but it just seems to me that these amazing boss shocks are essentially just 5100s and their standard spring. they are not rebuildable from my understanding. so i am trying to figure out why people spend $870 on a set of $170 5100s and $170 springs that are preassembled!!

There are some differences, shaft size, valving, also they have a threaded body so they are adjustable. I don't know all the specifics.
This is what the website says... I assume you've read this...
ToyTec’s new BOSS front coilover is designed with a larger 5/8” Nitro steel shock shaft which is much more corrosion resistant than chrome plating and is valved specific to your Toyota. This improves overall handling and performance. The threaded Clear-Blue Chromate zinc plated steel shock body is adjustable from 0-3” of front lift height and can be fine tuned to level your truck side to side and front to back. The shocks have a 200 psi gas charge and each shock is dyno’d before it is shipped.

Your mind seems to be pretty made up on the subject though. I don't have the answers but I feel like if I did... it wouldn't really matter to you.

The only thing I do know is that I have the BOSS with the 5100's in the back and it rides great on and off road. Huge improvement over stock. Truck rides best with about 100-200lbs of weight in the back. Perhaps thats why the rear shocks are better, softer ride when the truck is 'empty'. I'm speculating.

When I was shopping for a lift... Instead of blindly asking questions on a forum.... I sent an email to Toytec to ask questions. You know... because I figured they should be able to answer it best, since its their product.

It went as follows (trimmed cut and paste from the e-mail.)
Me:
Hello, I'm looking for a lift for my 07 v8 SR5 4wd. I believe the coil over kit best suits what I want to achieve. My budget is roughly $1k. What do you recommend? Curious to know the difference between the Boss & Ultimate kits.

Kevin:
The Boss and Ultimate kits are both very nice. The difference is in the front shocks. The Ultimate kit uses a Bilstein shock and the Boss uses our own shock. Both kits do provide a nice ride. The Boss shock is rebuildable. Both shocks are fully adjustable by moving a threaded collar on the bottom spring perch.

Another nice option for you is the http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/3-Lift-W-Bilstein-5100-Height-Adj-Coilovers-FJ4Runner_p_365.html Bilstein kit. This is a little less than the 1k mark. They don’t have the adjustability but these will provide 3” in the front and provide a nice ride.

so i was correct up until at least 6 months ago...the boss kit, again up until at most 6 months ago, was just 5100s w/ the standard eibach spring.

my point in asking questions on a forum is that it has some more of the down and dirt details on many items. whereas in your email you got the canned "with our own special valving" response. what is that valving?!!

I would like to know what that valving is. these specs are hard to find and most times can be found on forums. this is why i like them so much! i am emailing toytec now to request the valving differences between their ultimate (5100/eibach) and BOSS (toytec/eibach) coilovers. i will post for everyones info.

being an engineer..."huge improvement over stock", "very niiiiice", "go for the coilvovers, not the cheap 5100s, much better ride", etc do not mean much to me. prove to me with spring rates, valving, length of coils, etc that they are better.

Being a V8 as I am, I believe our stock spring rates are 550lb and the BOSS is a 600lb spring. This feels about accurate as it does not feel much stiffer than stock to me at all. I debated for a while between Icons and the Boss setup for quite a while and settled on the Boss because they are a local vendor if anything needs to be rebuilt and the digressive valving of the Icon shocks and their reviews made me think that they might have a rough ride for the little hits like expansion joints etc. and I wanted to keep it as comfy as possible.

From 6 months on them, they have been just as nice on road as factory of not better. Offroad has been fantastic as well. I like the larger perch compared to OME, but I don't know if I would jump it.

And its their ultimate that is the 5100 front setup. On that notched perch thing.

What are the thoughts on this kit? They're selling it for around $1500 with the light racing UCAs

Where are they selling that package at that price? Toytec has the Boss @$1259.99 as of right now. I have had it installed now for about a month. Awesome. The rear is definitely stiffer, as in the small bumps are a little pronounced but the big ones are soaked up like nothing. The fronts are a vast improvement over my worn out stock set up. I will get it off road in a couple weeks to break it in...I can't wait!

It's the Blackfri code special, about 10% off.

I'm ordering it tomorrow.

well...emailed toytec as suggested over a week and a half ago requesting simple valving and spring rate numbers... and low and behold....still havent heard back from them!!

so i will blindly ask the forum... does anyone have spring rate info on the 112620 vs the 521600 springs? the website lists 600# vs 620#, but people have said that toytec told them different numbers when inquiring about them.

also, i will blindly ask, what are the valving numbers on the BOSS versus the 5100s.

thanks forum members for answering questions that the source (Toytec) has not for nearly 10 days!!
