Toytec Ultimate Install - What I Learned

It took me a good 7 hours to get this done today. I tend to over analyze things so I definately took my time and didn't make any quick decisions.

The rear shockS are in fact a m^*€>{ £*#%>r. You definately need a 14mm deep socket. Still I couldn't twist the shock enough with the socket lodged so i used the force and kept bending the shock back and forth till it snapped. I had to unbolt the rear sway bar to get the shock in place. At one point I realized the brake line was too tight so keep an eye on that.

The front was much easier. It would have been nice to have a 19mm deep socket to get the lower bolt off but an adjustable wrench did the job. I had to pound the wheel well a little to get my ratchet on the inside nut. Using the stock Jack upsidedown to push the a arm down to get the lower bolt back in is brilliant.

The diff bolts are on there very tight.

All said, this new suspension is worlds better than the old worn out stock suspension. One of my rear shocks was completely blown. No more nose diving when stopping.

Measurements with stock 265/70/16's floor to fender

Before
front right - 34.75"
front left - 34.75"
rear right - 35.5"
rear left - 35.5"

after install with some driving including abrupt stops
front right - 37.25"
front left - 37"
rear right and left - 37.75"

If you've read this far perhaps you can tell me how much the coilovers might settle?

Also, I've already noticed grease from the boots. Now it's time to reasearch...

Grease from the boots is fairly common on a new lift...the boots just need a few miles to get used to the new angle. I wouldn't worry about that.

My coilovers didn't settle that much at all.

I am among the group that would recommend going back and loosening the control arm bolts to relieve the tension on the bushings. Also, this can eliminate the need for the upside down jack trick.

Congrats on the new lift!!:trophy:

All you need to learn now, is how to post pics! HA HA! Just kidding! But seriously, let's see that baby with the lift!

There's really nothin special to see but I did snap a pic. Tomorrow I plan on getting some tires. Planning on 265/75's in an AT variety.

Good lookin! Im in the process of saving up for the ultimate here and new wheels and tires so I can do it all at the same time. I've got those same LTX's on my runner and sequoia, and I love them. Last forever and are great riding. Gonna keep my 5 stars and use them with the LTX's for city driving I think.

I'm not sure you installed the coilovers where they were set from toytec, I did and the front was higher than the rear, it did settle a bit, but I had to adjust to get it level and the ride was much improved

I did in fact install them where they were set from toytec. I would like to level out the front from side to side, can you give me some insight on adjusting those coilovers?

I think I got pretty lucky on the coilovers in front with the 890's out back because I was looking for 3/4" - 1" rake so it would resemble the stock stance.

I checked you numbers and by the numbers there should be some rack but in your pic the front looks a little higher, must just be the pic

Riddle me this

So toytec ultimate was installed yesterday and measurements are above. Today, I went and got it aligned and put on some bfg's size 265/75/16. After getting home it seems my front measurement has gone up about an inch to 38.25" and the rear went up a quarter of an inch to 38"

I knew I was going to gain a little fron the slightly larger tire but I wasn't expecting that. Is it just because of the alignment? If anything I expected it to go down. I'm confused. I'll give it a few weeks then adjust the front down.

Looks perfect!

Just curious, but did you soak those rear upper shock nuts with PB blaster or anything? It usually helps a bit.

Knowing I could just snap off the shocks, I did not pre soak the nuts.

I'm still confused as to why the front gained so much height after alignment.

After suspension install the front was at about 37 and the rear was at about 37.75 ground to fender.

The next day I went and got 265/75's and alignment. when i got home I measured again and the front went to 38.25 and the rear went to just under 38.

The rear coils have already settled to 37.5 and the front is still at 38.25.

Now, I understand that I put on a bigger tire and was expecting an inch all around. I guess it's possible the rears are just settling really really fast?

yep front settles slower cuz they were made stiffer to support the engine

FYI, I lowered the coilovers tonight. Took about 45 minutes. When I got the coilovers there was 1.5" of threads showing and tonight I halved that so there is now .75" of thread showing. The drivers side dropped an inch to just over 37" and the passenger side dropped .75" to just under 37.5". I'll fine tune it later but as of now just driving around the neighborhood the ride felt much improved.

I plan on purchasing the ultimate next week. I'm just curious how the ride is, especially in the front with the 600+ pound springs? I don't plan on adding any armor. How do the coilovers adjust?

Overall how is the ride? Most of my driving is road.
