Tpms?

I've got a 2003 4runner Limited. I currently have the stock 17" wheels. I'm looking to upgrade to the OEM 18" Limited wheels. I've found a set that includes tires, but no TPMS. Will this be an issue? I was thinking I could use the TPMS from my factory wheels, but I'm not familiar with them and wasn't sure if I could just swap the ones over from my stock wheels (if so, can it be done without dismounting the tires from the wheels?). Thanks!

TPMS is for the handicapped and lazy peeps to check their tires. Plus, it's a pidb annoying when your spare needs air. Thank gawd i don't have it on my Limited. IMHO. eace:

I have a 03 Limited as well. Do the 03's not have it? If so, there shouldn't be any concerns when buying the new wheels, just bolt on and go.

Not sure about 2003 (although I would assume so), but the 2004 and newer models all have TPMS.

Some reason I was thinking I saw all 03+ had them. After looking, I don't see the TPMS dash light, so guess I don't have them. So, I guess there won't be any issues mounting up the new wheels/tires?

Oh, well I could not find a definite source, it was what I understood from when I started looking for a new 4Runner in 06'.

If you don't have TPMS in 03' consider yourself lucky, it is nothing but a useless additional expense. The sensors & tpms ecu are costly to repair & replace.

Yep, I don't want them. I was just worried cause the 18" wheels didn't include them, and I didn't want to have issues. I'm not for sure getting them just yet, wanted to make sure they were gonna be easy to get on. Thanks!

Hm, I thought I had seen this on ones prior to 06. Anyway, no issue running the wheel on my 4runner? I don't know a thing about TPMS so that may seem like a silly question, I just wanna make sure before I buy them. Thanks!

Nope, you don't need TPMS. Just use a regular valve stems with the 18" rims.

Yeah, 4Runners were equipped with TPMS from 2004 and up. But if you don't like having it or don't want to spend the money for new sensors when your dies, it is very easy to disable the system and just use regular valve stems.

Since the batteries in the sensors are not replaceable, I plan on disabling mine when they finally do die. I read somewhere that the batteries in the sensors should last 8 to 10 years on average.

Reviving an old thread here with a similar question.

I have a 2003 (with no TPMS I assume?), looking to add newer FJ wheels. Is it just a matter of installing a regular valve stem on the new rims? Seems straightforward but wanted to double check.
