Trail Edition Value?

The reason you can't find an online source (Edmunds, Kelly blue book, etc) for evaluation of the TE option is that 99% of potential buyers don't know what the Trail Edition is and don't care. Most 4runners never leave the pavement, so the TE option adds no value whatsoever for those buyers.
If you can find a buyer that cares, I would say it would add $1000 to $1500. The primary additional benefit is the rear locker, and you can add an ARB to a non TE for about $1500 if you do most of the work yourself.

A Trail Edition is the same category as an SR5 model.
Its basically an SR5 with a Trail Edition package as an option.
I absolutely had to have a rear locker so that is why I needed to TE. I used to have a 4wd with no lockers and it was basically a 2WD vehicle on difficult trails. The rear locker does wonders.
If you are selling your Trail Edition it wont get much more than a regular SR5 4WD vehicle unless you sell it to someone that specifically wants a trail. I agree with the post above 99% of the people out there do not know a Trail Edition 4th gen 4runner even exists.

I looked for one for about 6 months (or so) and never found one locally. I searched nationally (online sources) for another 4 months and only found 2. When I did they were both sold before I even contacted the seller.
My guess was they are a needle in a haystack for when they are sold and/or they are sold without the seller indicated TE in the advert/vehicle information.
My point being that I think there is potential with the TE...especially if advertised with the designation in the listing and if you are patient and place ads in online forums like T4R, Toyota120, or other similar sites.
I think I have a 3rd Gen friend pretty convinced that his next build should be based from the 09 TE. I'm not sure if he is at all close to transitioning, but just for curiosity, when were you thinking of letting yours go?

i think its more in line pricing wise to a limited than the SR5, being there are so few out there..
and the guy who buys your 4runner, is the guy who knows what it is, whether they admit it or not..
needless to say don't accept anything under excellent kbb blue value of a limited IMO (unless its trashed)..

If you are selling it privately you should have no trouble getting the same price as a limited. There are people who want them if you can be patient. If you are trading it in they don't have a box to check for that option, so you won't get a dime more than sr5 value.
