Trailer Hitch

My 99 4runner came with a fairly cheesy 1 inch hitch, and I an looking to replace it with a beefier standard two inch.

I'm considering finding one in a junkyard, as I know most will have them, then I'll clean it up and give it a good paint job etc.

I'm just wondering if there is any reason that I shouldn't go this route, or if anyone had any thoughts on it. Also, what years would match up with my 99.

Thanks for the info,
Mac

I bought a factory hitch from the local junk yard for $65. The only problem is that they didn't pull the hardware and the hitch uses bolts with tabs on them to keep them from turning inside the frame when you tighten the nuts. If you get a junk yard hitch, ask for all the hardware or you'll have to fabricate the tabs on the nuts.

Here's a link to instructions for an aftermarket hitch so you get the idea.

Sorry Josh, by the time I paid for shipping I would be better off buying a new one.

Thanks for the advice, 98OzarksRunner. Do you know if you can buy a new kit for mounting hardware? I'll use the old if it is in good condition, but if it's weathered then I think I'll want to replace it.
