tranny gears slipping?

95 3VZE auto 4wd

so the other day i let out some tranny fluid becase the truck was shifting real hard. And it worked the truck is shifting a lot smoother. now It does not feel like someone just hit my truck. the issue now is when i stop and then accerlerate the gears are not engaging. i have to rev up the engine a bit and then the gears kick in.

is that because i let out out to much fluid? or is it something ellse?

note: the tranny fluid level while the truck is cold in the mornig was on hot. and it was this way for almost a year. my bad lol. now the fluid level is right on cold in the morning.

should i add some more fluid? is the gear slipping out another problem?

If the level is at the proper level cold, I would leave it where it is. If you want to improve the shifting, you might consider servicing the trans(ie new kit, M1 syn ATF or the like, clean out the pan). Clean fluid, and removing the sludge out of the system really can make a huge difference. As an added note, I've found the trans is heavily effected(rough shifting, shift points off, etc..) by the state of tune of the engine.

I was having rough shifting in mine a few years ago, 93 3.0 auto 4x4, I had a flush performed and a seal replaced and she's been good ever since. At 185k miles now
