Are all automatic a340h transmissions the same? In other words can you put a 2nd Gen auto tranny from a 4runner in a 93 pickup 4x4 v6 with manual hubs?

That's what I thought. But the part locator asked which one I had. He said there is a difference since one has an electronic auto lock mechanism. They want for my specific vehicle 1300 for a used one and 2300 for a reman. I'm trying to find other options for a used one. So really any year would be fine I guess. 89-95? I thought that the 4cyl may also use the a340h. In that case maybe changing the bell housing would be necessary?

4Cyl trans is completely different, and cannot be used.

1300 for a used trans is insanity. Search on car-part.com for a cheaper option And they are year specific, differences in valve bodies and sensors etc. I put a 95 trans in a 92 once, but I had to change the valve body and a sensor inside the transmission.

Thanks I'm checking with them now. Gonna be from the salvage yard. I didn't realize about the sensors and valve body differences. Thanks for telling me before I pulled the trigger on buying one. Thinking the 92-93 model should be the same for the pickup and 4 runner?

Where are you located? Im pulling my automatic trans and swapping in a manual. Its out of a 93, v6 4x4 which sounds like is what you need. It would probably need a rebuild.

I'm in Florida. Looks like your quit a ways away. Why do you think it needs a rebuild? I gotta make a call tomorrow to the people that death cougar recommended. They are about two hours away. How difficult is it to change to a manual? Are the automatics set up to receive a clutch pedal and shifter easily?

It has 267k miles on the motor and the trans slips quite a bit when it gets warm. I got a steal of a deal on a parts truck that was smashed with about 40k on a jasper reman motor with a 5 speed so I am swapping motor, trans and all associated wiring. There is a bit of drilling for the petal assembly and the tunnel needs to be trimmed some but its not much, the wiring is a little more challenging to make it work with the automatic ecu. Look it up there are plenty of conversion write ups out there. It is a whole lot simpler with a parts truck through.

So say i find a 93 4runner with the same tranny. But with the auto locking hubs? Can they be used on my 93 truck with manual locks?
