Hello All. Figured I'd tap you all for a bit of knowledge. I have a 97 4Runner, SR5, with the 3.4 and an automatic. The Truck is at 253K, with a 73K donor motor and a Remaned transmission (Dec 2015) that has about 1100 miles on it. The trans shop that did the reman swap said get the fluid changed at 1000-1200 miles for the break in.
This I did, last saturday, at the Toyota dealer.
Now, today, while driving up a steep logging road, the A/T Temp light came on. I was unable to stop and pull over, so had to go about 5-8 minutes at 20-30mph to get to a safe spot (traffic and such) I turned the truck off, and checked the fluid. Did not smell burned, but was hot hot, and still pink as hell. Let it cool for about an hour and a half, and then headed back down the mountain via a nicer, more maintained road. Shifted fine. Drove 8 miles to the highway, checked it, 30 miles, checked it, then the last 30 miles til home. Checked it their. Still pink. Got to "Hot" on the stick, but not burned. Temp light did not come back on. Drove around town about an hour later, same thing, nothing out of the ordinary.
Obviously, I am looking at getting an aftermarket trans cooler, and have been cruising the boards to find which aftermarket one is best. Many questions have been answered.
Still want the opinion though: should i get the trans fluid changed again? Like I said, it seems fine, does not smell burned, doesn't look burned.
Thoughts? I appreciate them.
