I need some help here, I am a little upset right now, my sons 93 4runner was having problems driving it, he said it was sluggish, and then it just got worse, until one day it wouldn't go anymore. I called someone I know that does tranny work, he took the tranny apart and said it was toast so he just finish rebuilding it, 6 weeks later. after rebuilding it he went to test drive it, he said the tranny is ingauging like its suppose to but the truck doesn't want to move. I am so upset because I was afraid that it was the transfer case in the beginning but no one would belive me. So my question is is there a way to disconnect it to find out if this the problem or not?

Ya, the transfer case can be removed but that is most likely not necessary. In 2wd mode the transfer case should be passive. The bummer is the transmission, which may have failed due to the increased load from the faulty transfer case...OR the transmission guy made some money off of you. IMO I never would have had the transmission rebuilt. That is like someone going in and "rebuilding" your heart. Sure, it will work alright for a while but it will never be the same. You can get oem replacements for about 100 dollars more shipped to the shop of your choice.
I know he didn't mess with me, hes a personal friend of my sons, he rebuilt it for 1000.00 everyone else wanted 23 to 2600 to do it, he said he took the transfer case apart though and its fried, did you know that it has its own cooler and gears like the transmission, Brian (transmission guy) says he never seen one like this before, hes not going to charge me anything for labor, but he has to call around for the price of parts.
If I would have taken it to another shop I would have thought they had screwed me over but its brian, he rebuild a tranny for me on my sons MR2 for 1300 which is a real pain in the ass. Anyway if you have any more words of wisdom that I can pass on to him that would be great, thanks for your reply, this forum is the first forum I have been on that doesn't usually get reply's to my post but you did and I thank you.

Ya, transfer cases are pretty advanced these days with all of the traction control modules and electronic engaging systems. IMO I would consider purchasing a new transfer case instead of a rebuild if you can find one for a decent price, basically for the same reason as buying a new transmission over a rebuild.
