Transfer case rear driveshaft seal leak

I just serviced all the 4wd fluids and switched to Redline 75w-90. 190k. I noticed a hanging drip of fluid at the rear output of the transfer case to the drive shaft. Should I just replace the seal? I’ve heard before that replacing the seal is just a bandaid because usually a worn out bushing causes too much play and that wears out the seal. Thanks.


This is the best video I could find but it’s not a 4th gen…. Anyone know of a better one?

Replacing the seal can be a temporary fix if the underlying cause isn't addressed. Make sure you take a good look at the bushing for any signs of wear and play. If it's showing some serious wear, it's probably a good idea to change both the bushing and the seal. That way, you can really sort things out and avoid having the same problems pop up again.

Here is a good video from a similar car from one of the forum members [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION]. Remember not to scratch the sealing surfaces of the seals. I can't comment on the bushing wear though.
