transmission engages reverse but not drive

My transmission cooler lines rusted out and I lost about 4 quarts of fluid it seems. I replaced the lines, filled the transmission till overflow and ran it through the gears, opened the overflow and filled again. It ended up taking 4 quarts before I could open the overflow and still have fluid coming out. I was trying to get it up to temp so I could get the level right and it was taking forever so I decided to take it for a short drive as I had the pan temp at 86. I backed it out of the drive and then it wouldn't go into drive. It would not go into drive or reverse before. I've ran out of time today to work on it, so I figured I'd ask here for any advice or input.

It did throw some codes, p0894, p2714

Did it ever go in to drive? Sometimes it takes a little bit to refill the clutch packs.

No it didnt, what can I do to help it fill the clutch packs?

They should be self bleeding. I think you need a transmission shop.

ok, to the transmission shop it goes, any idea what might be wrong though?

My guess would be the facings on a clutch pack wore away when they lost pressure. As the pressure became less because of fluid loss, the disks were allowed to spin and wore the facing off.

is that something that require the transmission to be removed?

I would guess yes, it would have to be removed and rebuilt.

I would pull the pan off to see if any clutch material was in the bottom. If it is full of material you need to take it to a transmission shop. If ok change the filter and perform a full fluid change.
