I'm looking at a 2008 t4r with 105,000 miles on it. It has a great service history included with it but my concern is that the day before the p/o traded it in he had the transmission flushed. On the toyota service history site if the customer has a stated concern they put c/o, (complaint of) in the work order information. The transmission flush order didn't state any concern or complaint about the transmission, just the service order. Should I be concerned about it being flushed at this many miles. I also hope he started looking at new vehicles when getting it serviced and decided to trade vs. there being a transmission concern. The dealer that the truck was traded in at won't give the previous owners name so I can't contact him.

Would not be concerned about the flush at those miles, they probably did a fluid exchange anyway. What would have me concerned is that they paid to have it done right before selling it. May be a bit of a gamble, but I think its probably ok. Never hear of tranny problems and if it has excellent service history its probably fine.

The only scheduled transmission service I found for my '08 T4R Limited V6 was to change it at 60,000 miles if towing. I understand the WS (World Service) fluid can last a lifetime, and that might explain why I couldn't find any other references to transmission service in the manual, but I would probably consider having the fluid changed out at 100k miles, too. Well, actually, in my case I do indeed tow a 3,000 lb boat (including trailer, motor, gear, etc), so I will have the transmission serviced at 60k. Anyway, if the other records look to be in order (change out engine oil/filter, differential gear oil, check for frozen calipers, etc), I don't think it's worth losing any sleep. If it is a V8, though, I believe the vehicle is due for a new timing belt and spark plugs if not already done (which means they should probably change out the water pump while they're in there).

I actually had my 4R at the dealer today to get a transmission flush. Figured that at ~9 years old, it was about time, regardless of miles.
My service rep let me sit and read the Toyota TSBs about the WS fluid and service interval recommendations. The TSBs stated that it's unnecessary, regardless of age, to do anything with the Trans Fluid until 100k, and it's only a recommended check/drain & fill IF NEEDED. Much different than the other vehicles I've had in the past.
Toyota does not recommend flushing the transmission with the WS fluid.
He also told me that it was ultimately up to me, but after reading the info, I decided against the flush. Saved me $250 at the end of the day.

Look at some of the fluid after draining into a cup and it will change your mind. Mine looked horrible. Fluid does not last forever.
