Transmission or pump whine? (Seattle Area)

Hey folks.
I have a 1998 supercharged automatic with 210k on the clock. I have had the rig for since 170k.

Lately getting a whine that seems to be coming from the transmission area.

Went to a shop right before Christmas, and they are pretty sure that the fluid had never been changed in the rigs life so they dropped the pan and cleaned out what they could. Fresh fluids and new filter on the transmission pump.

Whine is still present, and in fact now seems louder.

Shop said every thing looked pretty good. the 1-2 shift has a slight lag once in awhile but everything else with the Transmission is good. Transfer case / Diff fluids are at the right levels.

So both the shop and I are a bit baffled as to the noise.

Any thoughts?

Are you 100% positive that it is the transmission? It is often an indicator of a failing water pump. I had this issues in my 02. The whine seemed to match my RPMs, meaning it would wine louder or quieter as I gave it gas. If you put the car in neutral and rev the engine, does the car still whine? Check your coolant level. It may be as simple as topping off the coolant. Running the pump dry will cause it to make a whining sound as well.

Not 100% positive its the transmission. In neutral its barely noticeable but in drive or reverse its present and yes it seems to go up an down with the rpm. Coolant level between the marks. And I have not noticed it running hot or cold.

When I stick my head under the car, its almost like its where the transmission meets the engine but its hard to know if thats the area for sure.
