For what its worth I don't feel the extra money is worth due to resale.
Here in CO people pay MSRP or MORE for one. Paying MSRP or more is never a good thing for resale or an investment.
Lets say a 42k car is worth 35k in 3 years. If you pay 42k for said car, you loose 7k. If you pay 39k for the same car, now you only loose 4k. It all comes down to math.
Paying more for a product that only appeals to a small number of buyers is never a good investment.
I paid 41,5k for my '15 Limited. That was at least 1-2k else than what a TRDP was going for here in Denver. I got a nicer 4Runner for less money and on resale it will appeal to a much larger pool of buyers.
In short if you want it, get the TRDP and love it. Don't try to justify it with resale or this or that because thats not there.
Its supply and demand and TRDPs are always in short supply so resale is going to be great compared to a Limited.
There are still many 2016 limiteds sitting unsold right now and dealers are discounting big time.
The Limited is definitely more luxurious and built for Coscto runs. Obviously you can take a Limited off road but it seems like a Sahara Wrangler vs a Rubicon Wrangler type comparison.
I agree the Limited overall is a better buy if you can get a lot off sticker and right now you can on a 2016.
I just don't see myself overlanding in a Limited but I am sure some people do.
