HISTORY
________________________________________________
Hey everyone. Finally decided i should start a build thread for my 4Runner. This is my second 4Runner that i have owned. A little brief car history first. Got my first 4Runner, which was my first car, when i was 17 working as a slave in McDonalds, but it was worth it. Here are a few pictures of my first 4Runner

When I first got it

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/20130126_162437.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/20130126_162437.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20130126_162437.jpg"/></a>

Some Flexing

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/IMG_20130218_120041.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/IMG_20130218_120041.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20130218_120041.jpg"/></a>

Some off roading pictures

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/20130314_140307_HDR.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/20130314_140307_HDR.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20130314_140307_HDR.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/IMG_20140107_134424.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/IMG_20140107_134424.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140107_134424.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/IMG_20130515_185527.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/IMG_20130515_185527.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20130515_185527.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/IMG_20140116_134738.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/IMG_20140116_134738.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140116_134738.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/IMG_20140116_135646.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/IMG_20140116_135646.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140116_135646.jpg"/></a>

Then my brother got himself one as well, cause you know, 4runners are cool. Except he got a manual one.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/IMG_20131119_071342.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/IMG_20131119_071342.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20131119_071342.jpg"/></a>

Three green 4runners

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/IMG_20140111_153212.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/IMG_20140111_153212.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140111_153212.jpg"/></a>

Not long after i sold the green 4runner and got a black one after searching for a few months. Here it is soon after I got it

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140524_203119.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140524_203119.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140524_203119.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140524_203132.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140524_203132.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140524_203132.jpg"/></a>

Only had 129k plus a little something else.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140702_200234.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140702_200234.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140702_200234.jpg"/></a>

Thats right. My first 4runner was only a 4x4 but this one has it all.

Next to my brother and cousin

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140720_181113.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140720_181113.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140720_181113.jpg"/></a>

Nice! Hopefully we'll get to meetup some day soon. I currently go to Sac State. Prairie is pretty cool but it gets boring pretty fast.

TRD Tundra / FJ Lift Installed
______________________________________________

After purchasing the 4runner, I started to acquire all the pieces needed for the Tundra/FJ Lift. I purchases the fj springs off craigslist and got the tundra springs from a local junk yard. I had the spring laying around in the garage for a few months while i was busy with school.

The Tundra springs had some replacement shocks installed so i got them for cheaper than usual.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/2014-06-09152542.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/2014-06-09152542.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 2014-06-09152542.jpg"/></a>

Then i decided to just go ahead and order the rest of the parts needed from wheelers offroad.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140918_110829.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140918_110829.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140918_110829.jpg"/></a>

I dont have any pictures while installing the lift since I was installing it myself but i took plenty after.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140923_180126.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140923_180126.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140923_180126.jpg"/></a>

You can see the rake here. Not sure how i feel about the rake. Might install some top plate spacers in the front in the future if it bugs me but for right now i'm fine with it.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140923_180105.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140923_180105.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140923_180105.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140923_180251.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140923_180251.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140923_180251.jpg"/></a>

The Bilstein looks good.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140923_180231.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140923_180231.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140923_180231.jpg"/></a>

Then decided to see how it flexes on pavement.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140927_180845.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140927_180845.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140927_180845.jpg"/></a>

The curb is little over a foot tall

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140927_181530.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140927_181530.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140927_181530.jpg"/></a>

I love how the Bilstein ride. Much better than the oem suspension in my opinion. Towed my trialer to pick up a dirt bike for a friend after the lift. 4runner did not sag under the load but the trailer is on the lighter side.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Lift/IMG_20140930_172055.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Lift/IMG_20140930_172055.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140930_172055.jpg"/></a>

Scion Head Unit Install
______________________________________________

So I decided to change out the head units in the 4runner to something that's better. My friend told me that he had read about someone installing a Scion head unit into a 4runner and it was just plug and play. Well, I did some research and found the write up on how to install the head unit which shows which model numbers work and how to install it. I purchased the Scion head unit for about $30 on ebay. It's model T1807. Here it is

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140806_133802.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140806_133802.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140806_133802.jpg"/></a>

Installed

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140806_134735.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140806_134735.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140806_134735.jpg"/></a>

Installed it following the write-up and programmed a custom message which shows whenever I first start the head unit up. Also it sounds much better right that the original one.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140806_185122.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140806_185122.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140806_185122.jpg"/></a>

I wanted to hide the aux cable whenever I was not using it and I found this on Amazon

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140808_223232.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140808_223232.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140808_223232.jpg"/></a>

I decided to install it where the cigarette lighter was.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/1e79934a-9bd6-4068-afae-7f025354e8f4.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/1e79934a-9bd6-4068-afae-7f025354e8f4.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 1e79934a-9bd6-4068-afae-7f025354e8f4.jpg"/></a>

While changing the head unit, I changed out the light bulbs to leds on the instrument panel and the climate control to try to match the head unit. Also am planning on getting a midland CB radio which has an orange screen as well.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140808_052831.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140808_052831.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140808_052831.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140826_215830.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140826_215830.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140826_215830.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20140826_220627.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20140826_220627.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140826_220627.jpg"/></a>

The orange color is a bit off(phone camera's fault). The leds are more amber than the head unit and don't look pinkish like in the photos.

Dam man looks good. Lucky find on the e locker wish mine had it but i deal without it. Really like the interior lighting and head unit.

Front Bumper Build
______________________________________________

Time for an update on my build. Been a few months and i have done quite a few things to my 4Runner. Sadly i accidentally deleted some of the pictures I was planning on posting. Since my last post, i have done many things which include building a rear storage/sub box in one, installed a Midland CB radio, LED taillights, and built my own front bumper with LED pods and a LED bar.

Heres a picture of my bumper during the build. Its made from 1 3/4" steel tubing.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20150801_172653.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20150801_172653.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20150801_172653.jpg"/></a>

Semi-complete

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20150806_172556.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20150806_172556.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20150806_172556.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20150806_162700.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20150806_162700.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20150806_162700.jpg"/></a>

Went camping before it was complete.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/blk%204runner/IMG_20150808_103014.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/blk%204runner/IMG_20150808_103014.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20150808_103014.jpg"/></a>

Finished it up with a square hoop for the LED bar. Ready for bedliner.

Noticed my rear axle seals were leaking not to long ago so i decided to not to change them right away because I did not thing they were too bad. But was i wrong. This was as soon as I unscrewed the lug nut a bit.

<a href="http://s892.photobucket.com/user/Paulb357/media/Rear%20axle/IMG_20151016_132306.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac123/Paulb357/Rear%20axle/IMG_20151016_132306.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20151016_132306.jpg"/></a>

It was really bad. Especially on the passenger side which turned out to have a bad bearing as well. So i replaced the seals and one of the bearings. Also installed 1/4'' top plate spacers to level out the ride as i was installing uniball UCA and decided might as well throw them in at the same time.

Anyways after all this, I went camping to Gold Lake and went partially around the trial there. Some pictures from the trip.

We got there at night.

We couldnt go around the whole trail since my friend was there with the stock Tacoma and didnt have enough clearance but we still had a great time. Well thats it for now. More updates in the future, planning on getting a tube bender with some friends soon so will be building more armor for the 4runner. But thats all for now.

Are those eBay arms?

Same story

Haha I just saw this thread and it is like deja vu. I just recently got a green 01' 4runner for my first car and I live in Folsom literally five minutes away from Orangevale. I love the build and hope to build mine up soon.

Nice, maybe we'll see each other driving around.

Now, what springs went where? As in, are the FJ's for the front and Tundra's for the rear?? Thanks!

I ordered the 5100's and am looking and doing research on what springs to use. I was looking at the OME's, but would rather watch the pocket book in this one for now.
