Tread Wear Warranties - has anyone ever got a credit?

So I'm wondering about manufacturer tread wear warranties and whether or not they have any value. In order to get credit under most of these tire mileage warranties, the owner has to show that the tire was rotated faithfully, always been aired properly, and the tire must wear evenly (no alignment issues).

So let's say you've done all that (and have adequate documentation). . . then the kicker comes in - the tire must be completely at the end of its useful life. This is when the wear bars show at 2/32nds tread depth. But all authorities say the tire is basically not safe at that tread depth - especially in rain!

(The only tires I've ever got any prorated warranty credit on have been my trailer tires, of which I've had a couple treads start to go all wavy on me after a year or so.)

So is this a Catch-22 (for anyone that remembers that)? Has anyone actually gotten credit on a tire wear claim, and are some manufacturers maybe better than others in this department?

Yeah I think they are basically lip service, I've never heard of anyone successfully getting them fulfilled.

Yes, and like I said, the only pro-rated money I've gotten is when the tread started separating - most clearly and undeniably a warranty item then!

I'm hoping the Discount Tire guy would chime in here, but this might be a delicate subject for them! :lalala:

I just got a 50 50 replacement on my Falken WPAT3's

They were great to deal with. Waiting on getting them delivered to Discount tire.

Mine started to howl at a level I couldnt stand. LOUD! Beginning this week.

Great! I think those Falkens had been on my list at one point. How many miles did you get before they started making that noise, and were they LT or PT?

Welp...the first set had 22000 miles. Then one day strange howling humming noises were appearing at 40 mph and below.

Got a new set, still making the same noise. Had an alignment done right after install.. still no help.

Taking into Toyota tmrw to check alignment specs again. Maybe i need more camber?

Above 40 mph...no noise issue at all. Its been frustrating.
But.... if toyota says its all within spec. Falken has agreed a 100 % buy back.

I then will go with the Toyo Open Country AT 2 and see what happens

Since I keep my vehicles for 10+ years I go through 3 to 4 sets of tires on each truck. I’ve used America’s Tire exclusively and have gotten some pro-rated credit back each time because guaranteed tread life wasn’t reached. Plus I buy the “certificates” for the tires at the original purchase, which covers free repair, free balance and rotation, and tire replacement if it cannot be patched. I’ve even had two tires replaced over the years due to a nail in the side of the tread (can’t safely repair), and the other when I ran over a bottle and the tread was sliced.
So it’s been totally worth it for me.
