Treadwright for spare?

I've been thinking here lately about how many of us that have upgraded tire sizes haven't gotten a full size spare. In the event of a blowout I don't want to rely on my crappy 265/70-16 and rather have a full size spare comparable to the tire size I have now. Not only that but it's definitely not good to ride on mismatched tire sizes.

I know some of yall run treadwrights for daily driving. So, should I save some cash and get one for a spare or go ahead and dish out the extra cheese to get a matching spare. We're talking $124>$200 plus I'd buy another matching wheel (lc80 wheel).

I would go with the treadwright unless you plan on putting the spare into rotation. A matching spare is nice, but not 200+ nice. Especially if it is sitting under your 4runner or in the cargo area. I plan to one day have 5 matching tires and wheels, so I can rotate the tire into my rotation schedule, but that also means having the spare in some spot other than the stock location. You could get a TW spare and a LC wheel for the price of one matching tire, just to put it into perspective.

Save even more money by finding a used tire of the same size. Check tire shops in the bad parts of town, they usually have tons. CL will have some. I found 4 free ones on a local forum.

I have used ones on 3 vehicles. They aren't great but I wouldn't think twice about finishing a wheeling trip and drive home a few hundred miles.

Agree with Gerdo. Find a quality used and save some dough. Cause really, if its not part of your tire rotation schedule chances of you using it are pretty slim.
