trekmasters installed

i hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. I installed the rear ones yesterday and we couldnt get the springs in front to compress. Just installing the rears made an improvement in ride quality and body lean.

And this is what I see the next day:sniper:

yea i did some minor offroading yesterday with a little flexing but nothing major. could this be the cause? i dont think it would

Are your Trekmasters extended length? If they were meant for a lifted vehicle maybe they're too long... Maybe that's what Justin meant.


It almost looks like they compressed, bottomed out and then mechanically failed.

I got from ebay and this is the part number

"These are brand new in the box a set of 4 ( 2 GU3535 front struts, 2 GE3536 rear ) Tokico TREK MASTER R/T shocks to fit 1996 to 2002 TOYOTA 4-RUNNER 4WD ALL MODELS"

Wow! That seems to be a good part #. It's hard to know what happened. There's a remote chance it was just defective:bash: I'd attempt to get a replacement. I hope you still have an old one to ride on while shipping back & forth.

So many like the Trek Masters. I wouldn't get too negative on them:D If it's indeed defective that's rare.

the right rear shock is also leaking but not as much. i have yet to install the front struts and im afraid i will get the same results. will tokico refund the labor costs?
 
Check the shocks themselves, and the box they came in. Maybe they sent you the wrong ones.
It seems odd that the boots are sagging when the truck is at rest at stock height.
 
Update: both shocks are dead. when i drive the car teeter totters. i kind of enjoy it bouncing up and down lol but i need to get em replaced asap. is there any possible damage from driving with busted shocks besides the springs?

just an update i got my new pair of rear shocks installed this past weekend. so far so good.

I have not installed the struts yet and im a bit concerned that they will bust since the rears did. Ive had them since October in the garage do shocks "expire"?

Also if they do will tokico cover the labor costs if i have to take them off?

you have to read the warranty card for that info on labor refunds but my guess is no, if in fact the shock was defective then there's a 70/30 chance your still screwed they may cover it but doubtful, but if it's the wrong shock the shop should have caught that in the first place so the shop needs to eat it.

shocks do not expire as far as i know, i mean everything has a shelf life including you but i don't think it's anything to be concerned with atm , just use them in the next few years and your more then good.
 
ok so as of yesterday my rear shocks are leaking again:redbrick::redbrick:

im going to call tokico about this one
 
Sorry to hear that man....I wonder what the deal is?? I have had mine for like 9 months now with no problems.
 
Changed out my rears on Sunday

I bought the same Trekmasters shock & struts a while back, finally got around doing the rear shocks. It went together pretty easily, so far no problems with leaks, they ride smoother/softer than the KYB 's I had on. 4runna08, I hope everything works out for ya.
 
tlm4runner can you explain the process used to change out the rears?

also an update tokico is not warranting the rear shocks. I spoke to a man named Ray and he said if theres any scratches on the shaft there is no warranty. And there are scratches on the shaft but that is from removing them again. when we try to loosen the top nut the shaft will turn so we used a vise grip to hold the shaft

To the MODS: when i log in it will say "thank you for 4runna08 for logging in" then it will show up as not logged in. I have this problem for awhile now, it is only by luck some how i logged in today. Thank you
