TrippyElephantx's Build Thread

I've wanted a 4Runner since I was 16, and have been lurking here for awhile. I finally bit the bullet and bought my 2005 4wd 4Runner, v6 engine with 110k miles on. I bought it cash, so I won't be able to do any serious mods anytime soon, but I plan on using this thread to (slowly) document my mods, as well as showcase my trips. The long-term goal for this vehicle is to eventually go on a cross-country trip, all over the West, so one of the main focuses is to build a shelving system and sleeping platform. I downloaded bagelsjustbagels plans, so I will hopefully be building that this summer.

Any work I do in the near future will be cheap, so for starters I'm just going to plasti-dip the wheels, emblems, and grille, and put some TRD decals on.

Future plans/mods:
-Bug deflector: First order of business is to pick up one of these up, I drove about 500 miles both ways this past weekend and had bugs all over my windshield. My old vehicle never had that problem so this is new to me.

-Roof rack: Main focus is storage, so I'll be investing in a roof rack, most likely Gobi rack, but I'm open to other possibilities.

-Bumper: I don't think I'll need a full rear bumper, so I'm planning on buying the Wilco hitchgate

-Suspension: little overwhelmed with all the options but my plan is to just buy a full kit, I'm leaning toward the Toytec, but I'm shopping other options.

-Front bumper: For now I'm just going to put a bull bar with a skid plate. Fabricated bumpers are just too expensive for me right now, and I'm not going to be doing crazy off-road stunts for a while anyways.

-Satoshi grille: I have an '05, so I'm gonna have to retrofit everything, so I'm trying to figure out the best course of action, but it's not a priority, even though it looks so much better.

-Lighting: I need to install the '06 style headlights, so I can retrofit the grille. I also want to install some lights with the bull bar, and some ditch lights. I'll probably hook up a light bar with the roof rack. I also want to install some LEDs in the wheel wells.

-Hood swap: At some point I would love to swap out my hood with one with a hood scoop, but this is purely cosmetic and is like zero priority. Just want a meaner look.

Stay tuned!

Looks like you found a nice clean one to start with. You might also want to consider the Fox 2.0 suspension if you're thinking about a Toytec system. I'm really happy with mine.

Ok thanks for the suggestion, I'll check that one out too. I'd like to get a lift by the end of the year.

Side note, how do I rotate the pictures, for future reference?
