Trying to run bigger than a 33 on my t4r. I need some ideas/opinions!

Im about to put tires on my t4r but i really want to run something bigger than a 33. Ive read about how thats alot of work but i figure with a 3in coil spacer lift and a 1in body lift and 1.25" wheel spacers that it should be possible. I was thinking something along the lines of a km2 but I'm not sure! So please help me!:thanks:

I myself have been a fan of the kumho mts but I'm in the same boat- once I do my lift I'd like to run something big too. Look around on here, from what Ive read its best to do a re-gear to run tires that size. Though I've seen guys on here that have run 33s without doing that. Hopefully some more people will chime in on this.. I would assume thats enough lift to do it- not sure about the spacers- that will depend on the offset of your wheels.

Thanks for your input SRS. I really mentioned the spacers because of rubbing. And im putting new wheels on with the tires with a backspacing of 4.6 inches

The spacer lift will sag causing rub, you'll most likely need to cut your fenders to reach full stuff, and I would go w/ a 1.5" BL and regear for sure, also look into a manual hub conversion b/c the CV's constantly rotating with a 35" will eventually lead to failure. Not to be mean but judging by the lift you've chosen you don't offroad often so what I've suggested may be overkill...check out Rockdawg's old build thread, he was running 35's I think

Thanks for the input Mauzer. And you are correct, I pretty much stick strictly to the pavement. I really think that I am just going to run 33s since it really would be unnecessary to put that much work in to run bigger tires on a mallcrawler. I am however getting front coilovers soon after my rims and tires are on because of the problem with sag with a spacer lift. Any ideas for coilovers? Ive looked at toytec but I havent seen many option out there....

I honestly don't see any need to go bigger than a wide 33 on these trucks if you want a large tire.. You lose too much with anything bigger in my mind. mileage, driveability etc.. unless this is just a toy to you. From the capable standpoint I've seen 4runners with 32 and 33s with a good suspension/armor set up do way more than i would have thought..

edit: im on 32s stock 99 height and this truck has impressed me more than i would have guessed back when i bought it. cant wait to get a little lift and armor.

Honestly, if your not going to use them offroad I would say the toytec are your best option..otherwise I would look into swayaway or King co's. It would probably be cheaper for you to go with a full OME setup. Check out TRDparts4u.com for the best prices.

I agree with mauzer, if you want something a little better than average and have a couple extra bills to throw down then go with sway away, if you still have an extra 1-200 laying around then go with the kings, i think my kings were about $850 for the pair and the sway aways were right about $675, or you could go with Icon, which at the time were $950 i think! any of those three are pretty much the best going from good to greatest in the order listed. good advice already mentioned in this thread. I will add my 2 Cents. Running 35's takes more than a lift. You should regear as well. I think they are a great idea for those that wheel hard on 33's to the point where they are just too small for the stuff you get into. its just too much work just for style points in my opinion, but then again if you dont wheel the truck you wont have to cut as much.

I just looked at 315/75r16 KM2's and they are over $300 each. If thats not a deterring factor i dont know what is.....

It really seems like too much for something that Im just using as a daily driver. I like the idea of the wider stance with 33s. And 300+ a tire is rather ridiculous. Now heres something else I would like an opinion on: which 33s? there are soooooo many options out there. and for me personally, a slightly rougher ride and road noise is no biggie.

firestone destination m/t's are awesome. that's what I wanted but they discontinued them in 315's AND they were only $208.00 a piece!! But I was S.O.L. - I ended up getting the Mickey Thompson MTZ's and I paid around $260 for them. The price of KM2's went wayyyy up jason that's crazy.

I vote Destination M/T for 33's.... but there are a lot of good tires out there. Just my input.

I found some good deals on Yokohama geolander MT+. I think $218 each for 315's on poly performance. they may be more not. and as far a 33's go. Firestones, Maxxis, dunlop, Nitto ats all seem pretty reasonable price wise. I paid just over $200 each for my 285 KM2's but prices seem to have gone up on tires

Yeah I really like the km2s. My onlu problem is the width. I also like the mud grappler which i found for 260/each mount and balanced. Next week is the final choice though and I think the mud grappler will look great on the rims i ordered since they are so agressive.
