I was thinking about buying a busted bumper and vacuum forming a custom garnish DIY style, but balls to the wall molding the real thing will yield way better results.

Haha. That is exactly how this all started. A couple youtube videos, old bumper, and some bondo was my first mold. My prototype cover is actually made off of one of the molds based off that original. The original mold would only last 1 forming. I destroyed is 3 times before i made better molds.

Yes going the route of professional manufacturer is the best way. Vacuum forming plastic in theory is pretty easy. But there is a lot of little variables that make huge differences. Maintaining even and consistent heating and cooling are main things that you cannot control without a commercial vacuum former.

I saw reports of guys getting upper trd grills with a bad finish so I quickly ordered one from my local dealer it came in today and I’m sorry to report same issue so they’ve ordered another one to see if we can get a decent part. Not a good sign hope toyota fixes this manufacturing issue soon.
