Tune-up, slipping transmission, EGR?

Hi all, yesterday I replaced the plugs, cap and rotor and changed the oil...the truck ran measurably better. Today on my way home the transmission started to feel like it was slipping and the CEL came on. I jumpered the diagnostic port and it flashed 7-1...so a faulty EGR system? What would this have to do with the tranny slipping (if anything)? Any ideas are appreciated. I should also mention that the exhaust smells very rich, but I figured that was either a bad fuel regulator or O2 sensor...not sure if that would affect the fault code...

I feel a little silly, the EGR code was caused by my failure to reconnect the EGR leads after changing the plugs. As for the transmission, I checked the ATF and it was pretty dark so I cycled three gallons of fresh Dexron III through it and added bottle of Lucas Stop Leak...it drives MUCH better but we'll have to see how it holds up.

I wouldn't add stop leak to anything I own. Hopefully that fixes your issue though.

It might not be for everyone, but when my power steering was leaking just a little, I used stop leak. The first bottle didn't stop it, but the 1st half of the 2nd bottle did. Now 30,000+ miles later, I still haven't needed to top off any until I recently replaced the PS return line (victim of an exploding fan). I didn't even think about it, but I still have that line in the garage, so I could check it out and see if there's any sidewall caking or something that might be due to using stop leak. But I doubt it, and haven't had any PS problems.

I guess I could have replaced the PS Pump or seals then, but that would have been much more work, and this has seemed to work fine. And while if there were any hesitations with such a product the first place to not use it might be in the radiator, I've used a similar product there too and haven't had any issues.

It might not be the solution for every problem. And some people might take issue with it. But it seems to actually fix some things.

To clarify I used Lucas' Transmission Fix, not Stop Leak. A good friend swears by the stuff and I figured what the hell...try it and see.

Hey, I've got a 3rd gen that's showing signs of tranny issues and wondering how the Lucas Transmission Fix worked out seeing its been almost three years. How long did it go or is it still going? Would help to know. Thanks.

My personal experience with Lucas products is that I've heard very few problems. I've personally used the engine oil additive, the power steering additive/stop leak, and the transmission additive. I don't have a million-mile story on using them... But I don't have any horror stories, either. I do know that when I managed a parts store, Lucas power steering stop leak/additive was the number one seller for anyone with a noisy Ford or GM pump.

Additional note... adding any of their products works much better when the product is warm. It helps to put it in some hot water (the container will float, so you have to hold it down). The stuff is always thick, and pouring it down the trans tube will take quite awhile if you don't warm it up and get it thinned a bit.

I've got an issue where my 4Runner acts like it's stuck in 4 low even tho the lever is in 2 hi. What might cause this

Transmission or electrical problems

Hey just wanted to get some info on what could cause a my transmission to slip. Pretty new to the mechanical side of car ownership. The transmission has not been shifting out of the intermediate gears(3-4), sometimes it will shift fine for multiple days and some days it won't. And I'll be going down the highway around 55-60 and it will shift down and my RPMs will go up to around 5.5-6. I just replaced the ignition module and now it's completely stuttering and is gutless and slips. Fluid is at level, clean and doesn't smell. Was wondering if it could be a shift solenoid? Or ECU?
