Turn signal indicators blinking rapidly.

2004 SR-5, V-8
Yesterday the passenger side turn signal arrow started blinking rapidly so I replaced the bulb and all was well, I replaced bulbs on both sides (they're sold in 2 packs and both the same age).
This morning when I turned on right signal, its arrow started blinking rapidly. I pulled over, removed the turn signal socket, inspected and replaced in housing. Directional again worked perfectly.
Couple of stops for errands and both directionals now blink rapidly. Have removed and re-installed and both dashboard arrows still blinking rapidly but now neither front signal is actually working.
Wore clean gloves to install new bulbs to avoid soiling them.
I'm guessing a relay(?) or something else is the cause?
Any advice is appreciated.

It could be the flasher unit, but it's more likely dirty/corroded sockets.

Had the rapid blinker flashing, on wife's Volvo v70...years ago.
- changing a working bulb, to another new bulb, will not solve the problem / you have a defective bulb socket
- dealership wanted $1,000 for a new wiring harness & a similar labor cost, to install...Volvo didn't sell the necessary part separately
- so go to junk yard & toss the parks guy $5, for the used part / unless Toyota can source new

Your getting a voltage drop to one blinker bulb / cut off the defective "pig tail bulb socket" & solder in another...new or used.

No need to respond, human error, mine. New bulbs were seated but not snapped into sockets, tight enough to stay in but vibration caused lost circuit. Have made sure that bulbs are solidly seated, all is working properly.

Really appreciate all the input, luckily just a "loose nut behind the wheel", me. Not quite used to a vehicle that can out think me yet.
