TYC glass...

So,

I have a crack in my head light. It is the TYC glass. So at this point because I have a HID set up I'm not sure what to do. Can you pull a new housing apart and just do a glass swap. The factory told me no but I'm not buying it. Lets hear it and some options on this issue.

Sure you can. Remove the clips, heat it up and pry it apart. The glass is glued in.

Plenty of people have separated the housings and swapped the TYC lenses to their factory housings, so I don't see why you couldn't just buy a new TYC lamp and swap over the lens to your HID modded housing.

You can heat them in the oven at 350 for 7 minutes and pry them apart. Or use a heat gun, and work your way around the lens. You should be able to just get the lens.

If you use the oven method, as a word of advice, DON'T take a call from the ex-wife while your headlights are in the oven. I did. Then I went to Lowes the next day for a new oven.

Anyone have a part number for just the glass I can search to buy or a link to a replacement assembly?

Even through the best place I have through work it was not that cheap so I'm not sure what the going rate is. I want to say they wanted like 120 for it with the TYC brand.

I'm not sure you understand or I don't understand something here.

You did ask about this in another thread a few weeks ago. I posted several links that show how its done.

In your case you want to just swap the glass. So you wouldn't touch the "hid assembly" by which I assume you mean the projectors.

You just bake the light and remove the glass. The glue is reusable. You don't need new glue in most cases.

I'd use new glue to be safe. Use a silicone sealant and you'll be set.

What I did for mine was re-use the glue (although new glue is fine) and then after it cooled and I put the light back together, I coated the outside of the seal with a complete layer of clear silicone sealant. This works great because it will hold tight, keep moisture out and you can easily remove it with a razor blade and start all over again.

You will find the "light sealant / glue" that comes inside the light (or new glue, if you buy extra) to be quite a PIA to work with. Once it warms up to 375 it will be pliable but then as it cools it hardens again.

Also it stretches and holds together when you are removing the light. What I ended up doing was using two flathead screwdrivers to ply apart the glass and then a razor blade to cut the soft glue as it stretched out and didn't let go.
