Ultra Ever Dry Nanotechnology waterproofing

I will bet you haven't heard of this new breakthrough industrial product. It boasts that it is a superhydrophobic and oleophobic coating! I have no idea what that means, but it just about floored me when I saw this video here:

I can think of loads if places I would put this stuff, half of them on my truck. But where would you put it?

a buddy of mine showed me this a while back, i think it might leave some kind of white filmy residue on certain materials but it works

I’ve seen this product make its rounds on various automotive/detailing forums in the last month or so. IMO/IME, you need to take into account some of the other characteristics of this product before considering how useful a product like this would be for you. Doing some brief searching on their website, I found the following examples of traits I found to be potential issues (at least for me):

Cleaning of the surface should be performed using low pressure water spray. The surface should demonstrate self cleaning properties under these will remain completely dry. The surface will lose it properties if treated with detergents, soap, some solvents or high pressure water. Due to the natural oils in the skin, excessive handling with bare hands of treated materials can cause a reduction in performance as can severe abrasion.

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with xylene[.

Produces a hard surface. The finish is nearly transparent, with a slightly white haze. This results from the nano-dimensional features on the surface. Ultra-EverDry™SE can appear white if applied heavily.

I noted the xylene comment only because of the dangers/potential health risk of exposure to that chemical. I mentioned the other aspects of this product to show that it may have a more limited application for some than what they may first gather just watching those videos. My personal concerns aside, it’s still an exciting technology.
