Ultragauge and 03-04 4runners

Who here has an 03-04 4runner and is running the ultragauge? I have an 04 4runner and I want to Monterey transmission temps.

Side note, anyone know what "protocol" a scan tool uses to talk to that year model?

I use a Scanguage on a 2004.

You need to go into the menu and force the ISO protocol.

If you try to negotiate, which it probably will, most likely its going to dump your zero point calibration.

I ended up plugging it into a different car, force ISO, then plug it into the 4Runner.

That said, its not a big deal to re-do zero point... I actually intentionally dump my zero-point before I go on any major wheeling trip to disable traction control.

You can use a paperclip or a wire to re-do it, but I made a simple tool with a momentary switch so I can do it on the trail without fuzzing around.

But to go back to your needs, I don't think there is a trans temp sender on the 2004...

Interesting. What do you mean dump my zero point?

On my scan tool (Solus pro) I can view two different trans temps. So it is getting a temp reading from someplace, but the question is can the ultragauge​read it.

I'll check out the scan gauge.

Your Vehicle traction and stability control takes readings from specific sensors while you're driving. These sensors have a zero-point so they know how much to correct when things get out of control. Since OBDII plugin devices can "speak" several different protocols, these zero-points can get erased if the wrong protocol is used. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying when it happens.


I'm running Scanguage II and there's optional X-codes you can program to get the tranny temp displayed. Haven't gotten around to trying it yet but others have confirmed.
