Ok so I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but I was at school today and I was looking for a parking spot....well I saw this this big pile of snow and ice and couldnt resist. Anyways whaen I came back out the campus PD was waiting for me. The d***** bag gave me a ticket for improper parking. I want to apeal it because I dont think it constitutes as improper parking but I cant find the legal definition for improper parking, thus my delima. So does anyone have any quotes or anything on what is improper parking?

Heres a pic for s**** and giggles. I'm in the lines!

that's good enough for me.

I say appeal it, but don't expect to get very far. basically don't get your hopes up.

was the lot full when you parked?

I can see doing that next to other cars, there is a potential for damage. if the snow crumbles, and your rig slide/falls to the side.

but, if the lot was empty, and stays empty as that pic shows, I don't see any harm.

but, society is full of a bunch of whiny pussies.

its hard to resist isn't it? I'd appeal it and say no one is near you and your technically in a spot, but they'd probably say your rear end is in the roadway lol... Don't expect to get it right but it makes for a good picture haha

so the pig didn't attempt to put it under the windshield wiper? HAHA

I would fight it. here in idaho on campus snow kinda sucks, lots of it. and parking gets worse because you then cant see the lines so parking spots get gobbled up by blond girls in their cute little civics who manage to take 4 spots even tho their car is big enough to cover 2.

anyways. point of my story is people park on snow piles here all the time. i guess its accustom more here than there.

Even though you might technically be right, is it even worth fighting? No judge is going to see it your way. Basically you got a ticket for parking like an asshat. I'd be surprised if you get off with no ticket. It's not worth your time and aggravation.

I suppose so but they wasted my time so I'll waste theirs.Apparently I have to appeal to the school board. Not a judge

Actually the rear is in the spot it just looks like it isnt from the angle. I'm parked more within the lines than I usually do lol

He be like "Hell Naw"

But seriously, do any of yall know what "improper parking" means specifically? Ive been searching forever. Basically I want to quote the definition of improper parking and highlight how I'm doing none of it.

Sadly it doesn't matter what the rules say since it's campus PD. They'll just say something about code of conduct etc and you'll get to keep the ticket.

Wasting time might not be good retribution either, seems like they have plenty already. I'd pay it and frame it next to that photo in your garage. That's a precious moment right there.

In lots of jurisdictions, they have a counter where you go and contest things like parking tickets - no judge; it is just a civil servant. Here, if you have any kind of sensible explanation they will at least reduce the fine.

Happened once to me (my temp registration fell off my window) and I saved $25 for maybe half an hour of my time, so for me it was worth it. I just showed them that I did indeed have valid registration at the time of the ticket.

If you have a picture from an angle that isn't quite as "dramatic" I would show that, by the way, to prove you were in a marked space with no signage saying "do not park here" without making it look like you were "snow crawling".

Start by politely asking the school board for their codes or regulations that give them the right to issue tickets. The definition should be in there.

Not to high-jack but this just reminds me of a buddy out on the dunes in his Jeep in the 4th of July and instead of having the standard orange safety flag he was rocking the ol stars-and-stripes on America's birthday, and the state patrol wrote him a ticket for some "non-regulation OHV flag."

But it did meet the 9 foot regulation height, and was WAY bigger than the 8x12 inch size minimum, so he took it to court and won!

If you fight it keep us posted on how it goes!
Good luck!

Reminds me of the time I crawled a snow pile at a mall and sunk up to the doors. Mall security came and had to pull me out with his truck! Haha, I got lucky, the guy didn't give me a ticket or call the cops...

I'd say you're screwed. I can see the reason he wrote that ticket and was pissed. Yes it look innocent but you have to think of the worst thing that could happen as well. Your 4runner could have slipped off and hit another car or person. Or when you are backing off of it you could make the wrong turn or give it too much gas and it could potentially injure someone. That's a steep ledge and you can't guarantee that it will work out when you exit the space. Plus other people may do the same thing and that is not what the officers want to see.

So, I would accept the ticket and realize that what you did was wrong, even if it looks innocent.

Pay it and moved on. It looks like fun but I would personally be pretty pissed if I came back to my car and saw that some dude parked next to me on a snow bank like that. Next thing you know, there is a bunch of idiots trying to do the same thing.

Since school boards are full of the same nitwits that expel 8-year olds for bringing neon green 2-inch squirt pistols to school, I'd say your hopes on appeal are zip. Private college you might have a chance.

Very impressive. Getting in and out must have been entertaining.

This is hilarious! All laughter aside, I have plowed commercially for the past 9 years and in Ohio it is a law that you are not allowed to pile snow more then 16" around a light pole.. We would always go shovel a circle around the lights first and then drop the plow away from the lights. For one, it takes up a spot and two there's something about it being a fire hazard if something happens to the light and not being able to do maintenance on it. It's gonna be really hard to fight but maybe it's worth a shot. I'm still laughing at your picture!

You could fight it for peace of mind, but I'll be willing to bet you a beer you will lose. All they have to say is you created an potentially unsafe situation by parking on that snow. They could say you were potentially endangering other people in the parking lot or even creating a visual distraction that may lead to an injury. Believe me if regular police can do it, campus cops can go further.

Hell in California they might write you a ticket because you may potentially hurt yourself getting in or out of the truck on snow due to the uneven surface (not wanting to get sued if you got hurt). Actually who am I kidding they would be so freaked here, that they would probably tow your car to avoid the potential accident.
