Under powered

I have a 1995 V-6 3.0EFI which I can not seem to get any power out of. It is a 5 speed and some times I need to put it in first gear to go up a hill. I have had a tune-up which included new plugs and wires. The valve cover gasket was also done. It has 163,000 miles. It did come from Utah and I live in the Northeast, could it have anything to do with the mass airflow? Any help would be appreciated. Thasnks.

Could be the fly wheel/clutch plate is/are wearing out. I had an old Nissan where this slowly happened. Got worse and worse until finally it just wouldn't give me any power at all.

I was going up a hill and had to keep downshifting to keep momentum, until finally it just wouldn't engage at all.

Could also be low fuel delivery? Have you run a fuel system cleaner since you got her? Might not be the entirety of the problem, may help nonetheless.

Just an FYI, you are in the 3rd gen section, 96-02. You might have better luck in the classic T4R section.

Well, I've had (3) second gen 4runners, and I know from my own experience that they are underpowered but what helped me bring that power back was getting an SRI/CAI, plus getting an aftermarket exhaust. Just these two items game me a definite increase in power, to where you can feel it just getting on the on ramp/interstate. Meaning by the time I was able to merge onto oncoming traffic I was already doing 65-70MPH. Yes, this was with a 3.0 5sp. 4x4 4runner. Now the Auto is totally slow, even with the mods mentioned. One of the things that you may know or have read from the Classic T4R section like nelsonmd suggested, is that your worse power robbing OEM item is in fact your intake. Good Luck.
