Unusual noise coming from rear end of 2005 T4R Sport Edition

Hi, I'm new to this forum and wondering if anyone has experienced a problem similar to mine. I have a 2005 Sport Edition with the XREAS system and when I'm traveling on an interstate at 65 - 70 mph, I hear a crackling noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The noise actually sounds very much like bubble wrap is popping. I've only had the vehicle a short time and it is a wonderful ride. However, this noise at higher operating speeds is unnerving. If anyone has any hints as to what this may be, I would certainly appreciate the help! Thanks and good evening.

There's a plastic access panel behind the inside trim cover of the liftgate. It's been known to create a crackling, popping sound especially when the weather starts getting cold.

In the summertime I never noticed the noise, but when it got cold, the access panel created noise.
