Usama Bin Laden Is Dead!!

1. I am very relieved he was finally stopped.

2. I am very grateful for the men and women of the armed forces who all together put pressure on bin Laden and finally got him. Thank you all!

3. Still, I'm reminded of the words of Martin Luther King Jr:
”I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.”

*UPDATE: MLK didn't actually say this. It is an unattributed urban hoax but still pretty powerful regardless of who started it.*

Hmm... I dont know what to think about the whole thing.

When I heard about it the first thing that came to my mind was the presidents low rating, uncertain economy, high fuel prices, crashing dollar, etc.

How convienient for Osama to have been seeked out and killed. Dont mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but it seemed a little strange. Now moral is high and elections are coming up...

What would we do without the media, they teach us everything. Without them we wouldnt even know Osama exists, or does he?

Besides, if it all is true than someone will step up and take his spot. They have already mentioned #2. I am sure there is a #3, #4, etc. Now we just pissed them off and God help us...

I'm not trying to offend anyone, just toughts that ran through my feeble mind... I am a military supporter and love my country.

There is no doubt those brave souls that put their lives at risk to go into the belly of the beast to take him out deserve most of the credit. God bless all the other troops that have been over there hunting for him, especially the ones that lost their lives. As far as our president and the credit people are giving him.....yes he would deserve a little credit, but i look at it like this. It is almost like when Les Miles won the National Championship with all the players Nick Saban had recruited. Basically everything was there, he just had to step up to the mic and take credit.....not buying it. None the less i am very happy for the victims and all the other true US citizens for a little closure on the ongoing war on terror. God Bless the USA!
 
If Bush was in office all these Obama haters would be slapping each other on the ass giving Bush all the credit. Obama still made the desicion and risked alot considering if the mission failed and more lives were lost and no Bin Laden killed the Republicans would be tearing him apart so Obama made an executive move and it was a bold one;only shortsighted people would think otherwise.

And besides dealing with the Bin Laden operation for the last month, other problems and issues the president was dealing with included: a government shutdown, a big speech on the budget, the start of his presidential campaign, the birth-cer...tificate follies and the bombing of Libya (MSN sourced) so it's not like he just had his thumb up his butt doing nothing. I can't begin to comprehend the stress and pressure any president must feel and I doubt any of you can either as per your comments.

I give the president a little credit for what he risked but our Military intelligence and the whole team of operatives involved in the mission deserve the bulk.
 
Such a damn shame. I mean, his organization is well known for putting Toyota trucks through very demanding environments.

I give credit where credit is due. I'm sure this was a very difficult decision for any president to make. When they make a bad call they NEVER hear the end of it. But, that's what presidents do.
I give credit to the guys that jumped from the helos and stormed that compound not knowing exactly what they were going to run into.
 
If it was a bad call WE would have NEVER heard about it. No administration in the world would talk about such a sensitive military and intelligence op if it did not succeed. So I disagree about giving the credit to president... And then there is an issue of timing... "Wag the Dog" anyone???

The only true credit should go to the special ops and intelligence personnel that successfully prepared and executed that mission.

Good riddance!!!

I don't understand why we even argue about who gets credit. Why does credit matter? I don't think we need to determine the proper distribution of credit between presidential administrations, or how much credit to give to the special ops forces versus the commanders versus the president versus the spouses of the military who make the overseas deployment possible.

Here's an idea: we have no limit on this credit. I vote we can give a ton of credit to everyone involved, be limitless in our thanks, not make this a partisan quarrel. Even more, we don't have to give any credit -- we can just be generally thankful for everyone involved and for the outcome, and hope this action results in increased safety for everyone in the world.

Personally I wish they would have burst through the compound walls with a 4runner and Shrockworks bumper and a 50 caliber turret mod. THAT would be something to talk about here!

I think that Obama deserves just as much praise as Bush would have gotten had Bin Laden been killed during 2000-2008. If you would have praised Bush then you shouldn't knock those praising Obama.

That said, obviously the mostly forgotten troops deserve all the real credit.


I am a veteran. USN 2000-2006. Deployed twice: OEF 6th fleet Japan region and OIF 5th Fleet Northern Arabian Gulf.


One question I think every citizen should be asking themselves is "was it worth it?" You have to ask yourself this as a citizen. The US Military has lost over 5,000 lives in Iraq and Afghanistan because of the "war on terror", there have also been over 20,000 US troops critically injured. They are invisible to the public. They get no airtime and most people don't know about their plight.

Although I served in combat zone, we didn't see any actual combat on my cruiser. That said, last year I read a book called "The Good Soldiers" and it really changed my perspective on the war and how to approach this question.
