Used Price Opinion?

Hello,

I am looking at 2003 SR5 RWD with 64K miles. Toyota dealer is asking just under $9K. Looks clean, black paint is what you'd expect. Dealer just replaced the evaporator.

First owner was a 4 year lease that put 9K miles on it. Second owner was likely someone working for the military/gov who exported it overseas for a few years and back to the US after putting minimal mileage on it. From there it appears to have been used a local college student based on the parking permit sticker. So, the low mileage seems legit.

CA and FL Carfax records only. Regular oil changes. Very minimal Toyota records.

NADA is saying $7,725 including a $1,675 mileage premium.

Appreciate any opinions.

Thanks

Bill

I dont think its completely unreasonable, but if it were me I'd keep looking. Id think it was a much better deal if it was 4wd, v8 or later 05 or newer.

03's with V6 are still prone to head gasket issues - probably mixed risk with low mileage but still 17 years old and transmission temp cooler failure.

The only thing that makes me nervous is the being shipped overseas. Where dod it go? How many miles were put on it and what was the time frame?

The only question is what is it worth to you? Get it around NADA and if you're happy who cares? Ultra low miles and will last a long time unless rotten. Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was able to get it for around NADA.

The Toyota dealer had pics of the dash out for the evaporator replacement with standard service paperwork so that seems legit.

4WD isn't a huge loss for my particular needs. Having years of records for oil changes every 5K miles from (ironically) my neighborhood mechanic and the dealer ended up being more valuable to me.

I looked up the export/import thing that was on the Carfax. I'm not a veteran but am speculating this was an option for someone deployed long term. It was probably for convenience with no need for high mileage trips or any regular commute. It explains how the car had 25K miles for the first 10 years. As far as I am concerned, I think it's great for whoever was away serving that long and it worked out well for the condition of the truck.
