I gotta say, I test drove a 6 and it did feel plenty fast.../QUOTE]
I have to say I agree. I drove the 2 back to back and there's just not enough of a difference to make the V8 worth anything more unless you're towing. The V6 does rev higher than the V8. The torque is more in the V8, but the V6 is in the horsepower sweet range longer....
I also did a lot of “test drives” when I was looking for upgrade from my 3-rd gen 4Runner and when I drove V6 and V8 configurations I actually felt that V6 was definitely weaker, noisier and even not as smooth as my 3.4 L in 3-rd generation. That is just one more proof how subjective it can be…
As far as gas mileage, on my last long family vacation (we went from Texas to Yellowstone and back totaling 3200 miles) I got 21.6 mpg (calculated) and that including 85 mph joyful ride though parts of Colorado and Wyoming).
I know I have lost about 1.5 MPG since that time because I went with AT tires and lift, but I still think it is still very good for V8, 4x4 and heavy truck.
Now back to the original poster: I would recommend do many test drives and go with what YOU like and waht YOU want the most.
