I found this video on youtube and thought it was interesting.

They both have the 4.7l, I assume the front driveshaft is disconnected on the awd.

Does the transfercase really account for the loss of all that hp and torque?

This video is BS. The V8 only makes 260 HP. Not nearly that much is actually getting to the wheels. So for the 2WD model to get 257 HP is impossible.

Well I don't know about the V8, but when I switch to 4wd on my V6, I notice a nice loss of power when getting on the highway. My Mom's Full-time 4wd V8 GX is quite a bit peppier.

You shouldn't notice any loss in power at all when switching to 4Hi on the road. The reason why the 2WD 4Runners put out more is simply because they weigh less. So on your 4WD, even when you're running in 2, you're still pulling the extra weight so it should feel the same, power-wise.

I'm not buying this. No way that transmission is in lockup under hard acceleration like that, so no way a 260hp engine gets 257 to the rear wheels in that case!

It seems that there are two possibilities:

1 - This vehicle has been modified.

2 - The dyno is set up wrong.

The person who posted the video gives no information about the setup, so it's all speculation at this point.

the center diff in 4wd mode still causes parasitic drivetrain losses compared to 2wd mode where it is disconnected completely. How much? Only a dyno could tell :shrug:
