Vacuum Type Sound.......

Fiqured I'd throw this out there while on my lunch break.

When under acceleration (either from a stop or while on the highway) I get this loud sound, kind of like the sound that a vacuum makes while sucking in air instead of the typical enginer/exhaust noise. I've also started to notice a bit of a vibration as of late as well (within the last week).

I've checked the vacuum lines and they look to okay and I've been under the car while installing a skid plate and didn't notice anything. My 2002 4runner currently has a tick over 161,xxx miles on it.

My past (2) 4runners a 96 and 2000 never made this noise while under acceleration or from a get go.

Do you all have any idea what it could be?

Hmmm, is the sound coming from the engine bay? Under the car? Have someone sit in your car and give it mild acceleration while you poke your head into the bay. Pinpoint the noise and SHUT IT UP! Haha, but seriously, itll drive you nuts. And if all else fails, buy a louder sound system, that stops all noises. And if from the bay, check your intake hose/lines, that pulls air and would increase/decrease noise with acceleration/deceleration of throttle. See if there is a change in idling position, for instance, instead of at 1200 RPMS its sitting lower. These are tell-tale signs of intake issues. Good luck small fry!!

Could try the old trick of spraying some carb cleaner in the engine bay and seeing if the engine RPM changes.
