Very little brake pressure

First time I push the brake pedal it goes almost to the floor. The more I push it, it starts to build up pressure. And then it just goes back and starts the process all over. Air in the line? I had my lift put on yesterday, but they said the did not unhook anything. Can you have a system that allows air in but does not leak?

Last night you were asking about bleeding the brakes with the wheels on. Did you bleed them and still have this problem?

I'd take it back to the shop and have them fix it if it wasn't doing that before they worked on it. They would likely have taken the rotors off and at least detached and set aside the calipers if not remove them all together. Something must not have gone back in right or maybe they poked a hole in the small metal line that runs to the caliper.

Wouldn't it be leaking if there was a small hole?
They said they did not remove any calipers

It goes back in at 3:00 today. They replaced the front wheels bearing. You would have thought they would have removed the caliper to do that.

usually when a caliper needs to be moved to get to things its just bungied/ziptied up to the frame out of the way. it sounds like air is somewhere in the lines. How full is your reservoir? Then since its going back today i would make them look for any leak of any kind, and then bleed the system 100 times if they have to to get the brakes working correctly.

Ok. Res is full. Checked it last night. But how would air get in the system if nothing was unhooked? I am sure they moved it not doubt there, but they insisted they did not unhook it. And I probably tend to believe them.

The one thing I did notice was that I was missing two of the little covers that go over the bleeder valve. Is that a big deal?

not usually, mine are long gone from just working on the truck. have you heard the abs pump run at all since the issue started? itll usually run once you turn the the to on/start the truck.

Check for damage to ABS lines.

Yeah no damage that I can see. And it's not pulsating or anything. And I am getting an abs light either. The service ticket even had a note to the mechanic to not let the LCA hang for possible damage to abs line. This doesn't seem like an ABS issue. It just seems like on the first brake it goes almost all the way to the floor and then if I hit it a second time then it builds enough pressure and acts like it should. It's quite strange.

Not that I can remember, but then I have not been listening for it either. But if there was an ABS problem I am guessing my light would be on correct?

usually but you never know. there is a thread some where around here that i read the other day where some guys had the same exact issue with the brakes. it involved having to have the toyota scan tool run the automated brake bleed procedure to resolve most of the issues.

Awesome. The shop bleed it but no difference. So they charged me and then reversed the charge. Called Toyota and they confirmed all the scan tool info etc... So at some point I will take it out there. And I going to hurt anything by driving it in the meantime?

The ABS in these vehicles is a very complicated beast. I suggest linking up with someone who has TechStream or a more advanced computer, like a SOLIS or something.

I'm thinking a tech may have goofed up and somehow your master cylinder went dry. If it gets empty, a computer triggered bleed is required.
