Vibration between 40-50 MPH? & ARB CBI bumper?

Hopefully someone out there can help me make sense of this. I recently bought a used 4.7l V8 from a local toyota dealership. A few days after purchase the truck started to vibrate occasionally when accelerating between 40-50 mph. If i let off the gas it goes away and if I drop it to 4 it stops. I took it back to the dealership and after several times in the "knowledgeable" toyota staff was unable to help me and on the 3rd visit they diagnosed it as a tranny/torque converter problem. I had a warranty so they replaced both....still happening! Can someone help me shed some light on this? sorry for lengthy post. I appreciate the help.

Also, anybody selling a arb or cbi bumper in so cal let me know. Thanks.

How did they rule out other possibilities and decide on tranny?

Check tire pressure.

Check for uneven tire wear.
Badly balanced tire
Bent rim,mag.
Unbalanced drive shaft
Bent dented drive shaft
Seized up brake caliper
Alignment
 
Yeah I have looked at a lot of this stuff aside from a bent or dented drive shaft. The tech said since it was going away when down shifting it was most likely torque converter but since he wasnt sure why converter was bad they decided to replace both? I will take it down to have the drive shaft looked at this week. I appreciate it.

But why would it go away when it's on 4th gear, if its any of the above?

I didn't understand that from the original post. He said it occured between 40-50. I did read the drop it to 4, I thought about it, but I instead ASSuMEd there was a typo, and drop to 4 meant, drop back down to 40 and the "0" was missing.

So...ok maybe it's none of those things now, unless going down to 4th gear is also accompanied with slowing down.

But it is still occuring after the tranny change. Second bad new transmission?? what are the odds?

What do you feel in the steering wheel.
Do you feel anything on the brake peddal


After a difficult trail I came out with a seize up brake caliper and a dented rear drive shaft that spun on rocks. It vibrated. It also sounded like rocks were stuck in the tires. Slow speed, no problems. Regular driving speen it was very apparent. Highway speed it went away.

Your vibration goes away when you slow back to 40, what if you speed up.

I'd add check the front and rear differentials after all that, I have noticed a couple people including myself have run into pinion or diff bearings boing bad and they tend to act speed specific.
 
If I speed up it also tends to go away but it isnt as smooth as if i back off the gas a bit...it the car doesnt slow down back to 40 but it is as if something isnt catching or is stuck somewhere I thought about it being part of the 4wd system. I will have the diff's checked as well. I appreciate the help.

I'm having the same problem on a 4X2 V8, Tranny and torque converter are new and the transmission shop is telling me that the problem is related to the ABS due to code C-1201. Speed sensors, tires, joints and Driveshaft was checked.

Ccatania2, have you solved the problem?
 
Recently purchase a 2006 limited 4.7 and have the exact same issue between 40-50 mph. Even my passengers can feel it. Anyone have any luck figuring this out?
