Vinyl Wrap Anyone?

I was wondering if anyone had some experience with wrapping their 4th gen trucks. I've seen a few 5th gen's, but can't find any of ours. I was considering a full on paint job, but it's too costly. Let's assume I'm never selling my truck, and just move on to the crazy.
Up here in Seattle, it's way too expensive, but down in Portland I'm getting estimates that are more reasonable. $3500 with a 3 year warranty, which is about what a paint refresh would cost me up here. But it would still be the same color, or lack of, and I'm not interested. Full disclosure though, I don't begrudge anyone's choices; color, gen, etc.
Hopefully it would last the 3-5 year estimate, and I could theoretically change it again after that. My 3M wrap color is likely Red Metallic G203, just for reference.
As to paint, prices up here start at $12k, and go up to around $20k. If I could ensure my truck would never get destroyed, I might consider that, but recent posts show otherwise.
Any input or experiences would be very welcome.
PS When I inquired about paint jobs, they would all tell me first to buy a new truck. Sure.

I know a wrap is very labor intensive, but the price to do a full truck at 3.5k to 5k is just too much for me to spend for aesthetics. I rather just dump that into some functional upgrades like suspension.

I learned that when you look at the fine print, the warranty often times covers vertical surfaces for a different duration than horizontal. I don’t have all the details, but watching some youtube videos, there are some finer buyer beware points.

I have considered buying some inexpensive material to try a wrap the hood myself, but it hasn’t been high on my priorities list… that said, I still want to try it just to see if it’s something I can do just for fun.

My other concerns with spending big money on paint or wraps is that if the truck ever got into an accident, or totaled, its near impossible to get that value back out of the insurance company. I do cover some of my aftermarket parts (roof rack, suspension, electronic equipment) with an additional equipment coverage adder, but it can really start bumping up the cost to insure. Hard to justify the cost / risk for a color change.

yeah - to each their own but like bumble said, id never drop 4 - 20k on a paint job or vinyl for my 4runner. i could do so many other useful things with that cake. good luck with whatever you go with.

I should clarify a bit. The amount I mentioned, $3.5 (or more)k is not unreasonable to me, and my truck needs no other additions. Add to that, I could buy a new one if I so desired, but love the truck I have. What I'm really looking for is someone with our model, who's been through this. There are plenty of 5th gens, and a few Taco's, that have done this, but they are not the same.
This process has been applied to many vehicles, some of which are crazy expensive, and yet they did it anyway. So you can see, it wasn't about the money, but the end product.

Dang! I had no idea that was wrapped. I figured it was paint. Makes sense. I think they bought that truck from Stouffair Motors outside of Portland Oregon.

Yeah, I found his stuff, thanks.
The big things against it, are daily driver stuff. Nicks and stuff on the front end, and on the sides of the windshields where residue is going to build any time you use the wipers. Luckily, here in Seattle, that would not be an issue. :crazy:

If you look at the pic of my daughter on an old bike, that's my workspace. Add to that an old back, and it's not really something for me to undertake. If I do this, I'll pay the pro's to do it right.
