Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking here... I threw out a rough unit cost in my area of $8-10 per square foot to install 3m's 1080 vinyl. $12/sqft installed isn't too bad if it's from a reputable shop. Is that what you were quoted?
Price per sq/ft is going to increase if you're doing a full wrap. Much more labor intensive when you're pulling lights, removing doors, etc. As I said before, the hood is pretty darn easy.

how did you wrap turn out? i had my hood and roof wrapped on my old xb and it held up well for 5 years. i used piano black so it was really shiny and clean looking. Yes- it protects the car from damage, but any imperfections in the pain tor chips will not allow for a clean lay over. But, it did most def protect against rock chips and sun damage. only negative was that it shows swirl marks, if the bird poops on you car and hardens its a bitach to take off. also water spots could be a issue, unless you take care of it.

i've seen quite a few comments saying that wraps are fragile and that has not been my experience. i used to be a fleet manager and we had quite a few vehicles with wraps. we weren't offroading them but these were service vehicles that got beat up and the wraps would hold up great until they started to get old and eventually the UV degraded them enough that we would have to pull it off. this was generally about the time we were selling the vehicle which was generally 8-10 years.
Andrew St Pierre White (4xOverland) has a wrapped land cruiser and he said that it's held up great through brush and tight trails, no pin-striping damage
if you are using a decent quality product i have no doubt it will offer more protection than the factory paint

I wrapped mine myself last year and it was a breeze. Spent a total of $400 on the Avery SW900 battleship grey wrap (with enough to spare) + a few squeegees & breakaway knives. Took me about 30 hours to do with a friend and it's almost perfect.
Now onto the protection. I'm from Missouri, our trails are tight, heavily forest, with some rock. The first time I wheeled after the wrap, I was hoping for the worst, there were so many times where I had to rub against trees or heavy brush and swore the wrap was toast. But after thoroughly looking at it, nothing was damaged, not even a scratch. I stand by off roading + wrapping!
So if you know how vinyl works, try it out yourself. The hardest most time consuming part was prepping the panels/disassembling the doors, applying the vinyl is very easy if you buy a quality vinyl such as 3m Elite or Avery. That vivid crap on amazon is garbage.

How is the wrap holding up now? Any yellowing?
