Does anyone here vinyl wrap their 4runner before they go on a trail, so you don't scratch the doors? Do you also think it's a good idea to vinyl wrap the roof before you put a roof rack on top, because I want to preserve the paint on the roof because it'll be hard to clean afterwards? And how hard is it to take off?

I've seen a couple guys on here and some on social media that have wrapped their whole trucks. I just recently saw the SSO 4runner at their shop with the new wrap job and it looks awesome.
I really wish I would have wrapped my roof before installing my rack... a lot of dirt and debris gets caught up there and I don't get to wash it. All I can do really is just give it a rinse, so that is something I plan to do in the near future.

Wrapping really wont help too much from getting the scratches that matter. If the scratch doesn't damage the vinyl then it probably would buff out. I wrapped my hood for looks and it did the job. I didn't wrap my roof because if you wrap anything yourself you'll see how big of a PITA it can be. Though, it's not really necessary anyway, I bought an extendable mop (slimmest I could find) it slides right under the bajarack to wash the roof. Taking off can be easy to hard depending on the quality of wrap, good rap being easy while cheap/bad wrap will crack, break, and come off in pieces.

Vinyl will rip and show scratches itself and clear coat scratches can be buffed out.

This ^^ a good ceramic job is tuff as shit! Added bonus is paint correction done prior to.

Have any of you priced a repaint, or scratch repair? I'm wondering how significant that is relative to wrapping or other coatings. I paid $700 to repaint my hood...so I get it's not cheap, but other options don't seem inexpensive either.

andrew st pierre vinyl wrapped his latest vehicle and gave a review after his first trip, it held up great even with branches and stuff scraping against it and that mirrors observations i've had on wrapped vehicles and what others have posted here. if you have quality vinyl it will not tear from tree branches and brush that will scrape through the clear coat.

3m clear coat vinyl. Durable and made for scratches and little dings.
The only drawback with vinyl, if you plan to put it on and off regularly, it's going to cost you a few grand each time. If you do it, do it and leave.
I got quoted $2000 CAD to wrap my whole nose and front end including front quarter panels. Keep in mind, there are less wrappers around my area so it will be likely cheaper where you are.

There is an option to have your vinyl coated with a clear laminate sheet that will make it considerably more durable (and more expensive)
This is normally used when there are graphics printed on the vinyl.
If your concern is only where the feet will attach, then use some pieces of PPV (clear bra) This is much thicker than wrapping vinyl and will provide much more protection. You can also wrap the complete panels with it as well.

Trail vehicles will get dented and scratched.

I swear the paint on my 4Runner scratches if you look at it the wrong way. I think the pinstriping and all that from the trails adds to the trucks character. So my thinking is just the opposite. I’ll wait until the paint job is just completely destroyed and then I’ll wrap it.
