Wait Time for new 4runner

I put a deposit down on a 2021 TRDORP with KDSS nautical blue. I was told maybe a 3 month wait. Does anyone have any idea what the wait times have been? Anyone with personal experience?

Thanks

Put a deposit down for a black Pro in mid-December and picked it up on 2/14 this year. My brother ordered a Lunar Rock Pro last year in January and didn't get it until August or so. Seems like the wait times are everywhere.

The problem is Toyota doesn't have an actual "ordering" process and they don't actually take custom orders. They use an allocation based system with preference requests, so you're putting your name down at a dealer and hoping they can pull strings with allocations to get what you want. That's why the timing is so wildly inconsistent.

So, as you've read some of the comments. My Dealer was able to re-route my ORP to the local Wichita, KS. dealership for me. It was about a 6-7 week wait. Requested in early March 22, received it April 29th. I do believe that Toyota can't place orders right now. I didn't have the ability to pick the option packages that my ORP came with. I was able to get the color I wanted... Hope this helps.

I was told as stated above there is no order process........

The process is:
Provide a deposit, which allows the dealer to compete with other dealers for available vehicles that are allocated to the US.
You can't get the VIN assigned to the dealer / you ----- until it's on the ship

Higher volume dealers seem to get more vehicles off allocation?
I was told that allocations are determined 2x per month on the 15th and last day of the month.

This was the process I followed for a 22 TRD PRO. There were none available in New England, meaning in dealer inventory for the last 12 months. If you wanted a PRO you had to follow the process above.
Write a check for $1000 to kick off the process. Mine was allocated in about 15 days, I got a VIN in about 60 days and the dealer delivered the 4runner about 76 days from placing the deposit.
Paid MSRP - no market adjustment.

Hope this helps

Wow, that's actually really good. Allocated in 15 days is unreal.

I have done all the same steps, minus my deposit was only $500 and my build is a TRD Off-Road not a Pro, and I'm going on 8 months now with no end in sight. No allocation yet, still crossing my fingers and hoping for a call.

Do you live in Mass? Not sure what's going on with an 8 month wait?
If you are in Mass - try Bristol Toyota south east mass 50 min ride from Boston.
Ask for Jes........
I am sure he will give you a straight answer.

I got ridiculous answers from the local dealer this winter in south west florida.... so I decided to buy / order in New England. I figured if I ordered in FEB I would get it in April when I returned to new england ............ but the process worked faster than expected, so I had to fly home to take delivery---the TRD PRO sat in the garage at our summer house for 2 month, until I got back.
Hope they can do the same for you..........8 months is nonsense

8.5 months later, and two separate dealers looking, I've been told they can't get me an army green trd off road. Army green is being discontinued in 2023 and the have stopped production of the 2022's in order to churn out next years models. What a disappointment!

There are over 200 army green 4Runners around.

Never rely on one or two dealers. When I wanted a pro, I put deposits at 4 dealers across the state and had one within 30 days.

Sort the list by zip code and call up the dealers until you get the one you want ...

I can tell that inventory is catching up - every few weeks I look at cars.com and there are more and more 4Runners and Tacos available at all trim levels.

Thanks for the advise. I have looked, trust me. I will, however, reach out to the few out of state dealers I have found that have them that match my specifications.

Using cars.com there are exactly 5 new trd off road 4runnners in army green and under $50,000 in the US. I specifically need the trd off-road and not the premium because the addition of the sunroof on the premiums takes away from my headroom being 6'5''. I also need the rear locker so any "trail special editions" are out of the running.

Closest is 172 miles away, then about 800+ miles. I sent them both a message. I'm sure they are both a long shot, but here's to trying!

UPDATE: just got a call from one of the 5 dealers that listed army green trd off roads. Listed price on cars.com $49,609. A actual price after dealer markup, $59,609. I was also informed that due to the new rarity of this color in this particular trim, dealers are even instructed to not sell to out of state buyers.

Can you just get a skin for it? Is that a thing for a cheaper color nearby?

That sucks. I have noticed dealers putting all sorts of crap on vehicles (Cubic Zirconia Coating! Special treatment on the Softex seats! Crappy $99 dash cams they charge $599 for!) to drive up their margins. It's a scam and I'd never buy a vehicle from a place that did that, because they know that stuff is all worthless.

So I guess it's still a sellers market. I guess we wait for the fed rate hikes to further kill demand ...

One of the dealers here in KC told me they wouldn't sell to an out of state customer. I told them there was no cure for stupid and walked out.
