I have a stock 97 4Runner. It kinda pisses me off that the back end seems to be lower than the front. I feel I have noticed this with a lot of the same gen stock 4Runners I see around. I want to handle the eye-sore by getting a lift kit (no more than 3") and am looking for help with ideas on best value for the best price kits. I want something that isnt going to make the stock tires look rediculous on it either. I do intend to throw on some tires when the ones on it are no longer useable however. Any ideas? could use some input.

ive done alot of research on this as i too am getting a lift soon and toytech is the way to go...avoid body lifts i hear there a waste of money and will eventually sag...

Body lifts sag??? how can that be when its just blocks lifting your body off the frame?

There's nothing inherently wrong with body lifts and no they don't sag. In many cases they are almost required (to prevent 35"+ tires from rubbing under a fully compressed suspension)
I'd recommend that the OP read the whole lift FAQ linked above and then come with specific questions so they get good answers.
Im still not 100% on what I would like to do. I have looked over the FAQ link above and am honestly at this time not looking to put a bunch of work into it... my main concern is getting the rear-end to be at-least level with the front if not a bit higher. Is it common in the 3rd gen models to have the rear-end sag? Or is it supposed to be lower? I am still new to the 4runner and am learning as I go.
Once again I primarily just want the back end to where I picture it should be in my head. Eventually when I get off AD and pick up an alternative daily driver (as well as surplus cash I can throw in) I will be wanting to get more creative with it. would throwing in a fresh pair of springs in the rear be an effective fix?

I lied... another question i have is i want to get some meatier tires but not increase height.. right now just going for the look and practicality I have P265/70 R16 tires and am looking for something comparable to them but with a more aggressive look.

You're getting confused between the front spring spacers and body lifts.

If you don't want a lift, new replacement springs would restore rear to original height. Sounds like you are a novice when it comes to 4runners. Read the stickies at the top of the post list. Here is one about rear sag:

Yes, the rear springs sag in these often. Look for a set of '99 Tall rear springs. You can buy them used cheaply. And even if the used ones are sagging a bit, they'll still be taller than what you have.
If you want to open the wallet a bit more, OME906's and Toytec 1/4" spacers up front. Your choice on what shocks to go with.
Sounds like you're not much of a wheeler (nothing wrong with that, I'm not either) so don't spend a lot of money on a lift.

Right now i dont really have time to wheel... i have a little less than 2 yrs before i get off of AD and once things get situated back home i plan on doing a big over-haul over a decent length of time... i see a lot of the chopped runners and i want one... thanks for the advice. Im going to be checking on the recall thing if its already been "fixed" than i will probably get the 99 talls so thanks again
