wax stripper?

I'm looking for a wax stripper to take the old wax off the runner. I've heard a regular dish soap will do just that, but to what extent? Wondering if anyone knows about a dedicated product for doing this?

I have used a product that was made by Diamond Kote, I think it was called diasol?? the stuff was awesome, you just spray it on the vehicle and watch this milky liquid run right off the panels. I haven't been able to find it around though.

Plain old Dawn or Palmolive work great. For extra wax removing power, add some Purple Power degreaser to the wash bucket. There is not any special "wax remover" that I know of. In fact, most of the high end waxes recommend washing with Dish Soap prior to application to remove wax.

If you are going through the trouble of removing the wax, I hope you are clay barring as well.

I'll definitely be clay barring it. After playing in the bush I've got some new pinstripes. I've had to do a couple washes to get it clean again. I figured before winter and while it's still nice out I'd try to get most of the wax off first, then clay bar, then wax and polish again. thanks for the reply.

I used to do 24 hour details on my GTI when I owned it and that's what I used to do. Regular dish soap is perfect for what youre looking to do.

This. Use a good polish. Clay bar if you want. For a final tough surface (remember, the real purpose of wax is protecting the paint), I like Mother's pure hard carnauba wax.

I do this at the end of every season with my track car. Probably not as bad as you off-roaders, but I get a lot of grit & tire gummies (chunks of track tire which hit the car at high speed & are hot enough to glue themselves to the paint).

Agreed. I just use Palmolive to wash, then a clay bar to remove surface grit and wax.

I don't use the fancy wax on my trucks, just the sturdy stuff like Collonite 476. Being a cleaner wax, it will strip residual layers anyway.

Any cleaner with ammonia it will strip wax. Floor care guys use ammonia to strip heavily waxed floors.

I wouldn't recommend using ammonia on the exterior of a vehicle, dishwashing liquid will get the job done safely. Whatever you use, make sure you rinse it off really well.
