Waxing/Polishing

Another quick question. I recently purchased an almost brand new '10 Limited Trail 4runner. Since I am real picky about my detailing of the vehicle, I washed/degreased the car, then used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, then Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax. 4runner looks great!

However, I noticed on the top of my 4runner, two small areas that appeared to be dried, hard wax left by the last person who detailed the car. I was able to remove the harden wax, but now there are two small spots that have appeared to be "faded" to a light shade of blue, caused by the substance being there for God knows how long. I tried using a little more rubbing compound with no luck.

Other than having the areas re-painted, has anyone else experienced anything like this? Just curious.

Thanks in advance....

Sounds like its in an area where it really can't be spotted so sometimes things are best left alone. I'd clean it and put some sealant (like Collinite 845, Menzerna Powerlock, Blackfire Wet Diamond, etc) on it every 3 months. I suggest that for the whole truck also. But not over a wax - use it right after polishing. Then you can put a wax over the sealant if you like but sealants are made so well that the gains of covering it with wax will be minimal and short-lived.

You'll be lucky to get 3 weeks of protection out of a wax alone.

I use Black Magic carnuba wax and it lasts (water beads) about 5 month. Always use manual wax as opose to spray-on junk. Wax in automatic car wash is the worst. Opt for just wash in the winter. As for the spot on the roof: if it wont polish out I'd leave it alone and wax over to prevent oxidation. Did you try Clay Bar? I'd clay bar whole roof to get it perfect before waxing.
