Weathertech Vent Visors

Just installed a pair of front window only deflectors. They are the type that install inside the window track, NOT using any 3M tape..

I gotta say they were easy to install and their lines look very clean, matching the window perfectly. My only beef is that they do not allow the window to close in the AUTO-UP feature mode.

When the window tries to seat itself at the top of closure, it has just a little to much restriction from the Weatherflector in the track, and automatically drops down halfway. This is the window anti-pinch safety feature. If I raise it manually (ie not using the auto-up feature) it will close fully.

Does anyone else have the "installed in window track" style of deflectors on their windows? Do you have this issue with the window can't auto-up by itself?

I know Draw-Tite also makes a in-track version and I almost bought those because they about $15 cheaper. But the Weathertech version comes in Dark Tint.

BTW.. the windows are CLOSED in the picture.

I have exactly the same dark weathertech visor on my 'Runner. The auto-up or 0ne-click-close does not work either after these were installed. But I like the look and they really work when raining so I can live with the inconvinence.

they look very nice, but i dont know if i can live without my auto up feature. i use it alot when i go up to my banks atm, etc. i did have ventshades on my last 4runner that mounted with 3M tape and never had a problem with them, even in automatic car washes in the 6yrs i had it. but then again that just my pov.

edit:

i wonder if you grinded some of the shade where the window binds up at, would it be enough to enable the auto up feature w/o it reversing?

I had these on my '03 Taco and they worked great and did not cause any trouble with the one-touch up feature.
I was going to get some for my '00 4Runner but now I am not too sure.

Window is fine now

I guess all they needed were a chance to seat completely. I took them out and put some spray silicone on a rag and lubed the window along the inside edge of the weather strip where the Vent Shade would be installed. Then after I re-installed the Weatherflector , I really gave it a few firm shoves into track. After a few days of leaving it in there, I am now able to use the auto up feature wothout it sensing the VentShade and dropping back down.

I will say that I may have been better off getting the standard version instead of the dark tint ones. They effectively make the A-pillar VERY wide, and you cannot see through them at night at all. HUGE blind spot now. I am slowly getting used to it.

Toolman - I'm relieved the auto up feature is working now. I've thought about getting these but was hesitant to lose that feature as I've gotten accustomed to using it now

I was thinking of getting the clear ones so hopefully it looks ok with the tinted windows...

are the clear weatherflectors actually clear? i thought they were kinda smoked.

yeah you're right they are smoked and very lightly smoked so they aren't dark at all.

Just checked my driver side window. The auto-up or 0ne-click-close does work properly just as Toolman suggested.

Guess it needs some time for it to seat....

I installed the Draw-Tite version of those in October. I never had a problem with the auto-up feature, but the instructions read that it may take a little time for them to seat correctly if it does interfere.

One thing you might want to keep an eye on, however, is buildup between the plastic and glass. Even though I washed my vehicle regularly this winter, salt and road funk got between the window and plastic causing slight scratches on the glass. I ended up removing them a few weeks ago because of this.

i think this is the main reason why i wont get the in-track ventshades and probably will get the 3M versions.

I checked

It rained a few days recently and there isn't any dirt up there. It looks like the ventvisor protects the top of the window track. I'll kepp an eye on it but don't expect it to be a problem unless it gets seriously splashed with mud directly on the upper window seal and I don't wipe it off.
