Weird winding noise from under the hood.

I was racing my friend in his taco and our other friend in his 4th gen (on a "track" of course) well I was in the middle and we are bsing and I revved and my friend was like wtf? Your supercharged?!!?! They and I heard a winding noise and it's worrying me, is a belt or something going bad or wrong? Or have the runner gods given me the supercharged sound but no supercharger?! :wtf:

I'm not even going to ask why you were racing in a truck. Generally if you have a stock motor no intake etc, I would guess you have an accessory, idler, or tensioner going out. If you can't figure it out by listening, you can pull the accessory belts off one at a time to see what path it is on.

My friends pick on me bc they have sick lifted 4.0 rigs so I had to stand up for myself!!! Lol and thanks its been worrying me since I know it's not natural.

I'm experiencing what i believe to be a similar problem not trying to hijack but im wondering if its the same, im getting a whine under the hood only during acceleration and it starts somewhere around 35-40 mph anyone have a clue if this could be the same situation.

Check your power steering fluid. Superchargers have been know to sound like power steering pumps that are low on fluid.

I checked mine and the fluid level is perfect any chance it could be the alternator pulley because it only starts when accelerating after you get it to around 45mph.

Go buy a stethoscope and put it on all of your pulleys, one at a time. Listen to the internals and see if there's a bearing or something going bad inside. You'll know it when you hear it.

If the pulleys are fine, spray some belt lube on your belts and see if it goes away. Spray WD40 around your tensioner. Maybe something is whining because it's dry.

Do these and report back.

and stops as soon as you let off the accelerator and does not do it while sitting still or idling.

I thought the sound was coming from under the hood? That's a long way from your fuel pump.

The first thing I ever replaced on my 4Runner was the idler tensioner pulley. My bet is on bearing is out on it.. It will whine and whine.

+1. A low power steering will whine while turning, but if you're REALLY low then it'll whine by itself. Which is bad.
