So what are my options? Is it so costly that I should just pay my deductible for insurance to repair it or will it only cost me a couple hundred bucks? I know there's a few people on here that have done it but I can't remember who and having a hard time finding it.

I took all glass out of my 4runner when I painted it, but I reused everything but the windshield. With the window already broken out it should only be a matter of cleaning the glass and cutting the old urethane away from the body. I don't know what replacement glass costs but there isn't much to install it other than applying new urethane and snapping the new glass in place - it should come with a new molding and clips. Any body shop should be able to help you out, or call Safelite or a glass company. Most of the customers that come into my work opt to pay out of pocket because the cost is usually less than their deductible.

Just don't do what one customer did on her Chevy Venture, plexiglass, silicone, and 3" wood screws!

I've been there man. It sucks. I was quoted $500 (new) for that piece of glass because its rare and hard to get new.

But guess what .. I went down to the local junk yard at they gave me the glass for $100, fully removed by them and then it was like $30-$40 to have the owners buddy install it professionally on my truck.

The used glass has help up fine over the last 4 years.

The first thing I would do is pull that DUCK tape off the paint right now. I'd suggest buying some blue painters tape and lifting up the duck tape then lining the blue tape that over the paint and then putting duck tape over the blue tape. The duck tape leaves a horrible crappy residue vs blue tape that barely leaves any.

Junkyard auto glass can be a good deal. I replaced a window on my son's '99 BMW for $45 when a new piece was well over a hundred. It was OEM in perfect condition.

New, with the antenna, that 4Runner piece is like $300.

$500 is dealer rip-off, unless that included installation.

You can also try Safelite. They will give you a quote on-line and usually you can get a choice from cheapie Mexican to OEM. Give your local glass guy a shot, too. He can also install your junkyard glass for you.

lol.. Pretty similar to my thoughs cus after it happened I yelled a loud profane word proceeded with "well, better sas it now" haha



Thanks for your ideas guys. The junkyard has a couple 3rd gens. I'm gonna go check them out tomorrow likely.

I know this is an old post, but I'm getting desperate. I just had the driver's side glass busted out, picked one up from the junkyard but they destroyed the seal/molding/weatherstripping when they removed it! Can't seem to find a new seal, can anyone point me in the right direction before I just buy another window that hopefully has the seal? Thanks!
