Well that's that...

A little less then a year ago I joined this forum to fix up my clear-coat ruined 4Runner. Little did I know what a gem I was sitting on. A 1996 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 with a 5 speed. I looked at this forum in ah of all the incredible rigs on this forum. I started with some simple cheap mods, but after a few days, I was hooked. I knew I had to keep this car forever! I took it wheeling with my Dad a couple times because I was only 15. Then I was really hooked. I was tied by my hands and feet in 4Runner stuff. No other way to spend my weekend then with it. Saved up some money and got a head unit and a paint job. I then fell in love with it all over again and so did both my parents (The original owners). Painted some bumpers black and I had a rig. And that is where it sits today.

On to the Point: I joined here so I could prepare my 4Runner to become my daily driver. I was months away from even getting my permit. Then, on January 17th, I received my permit. Then, on July 15th, I turned 16. Then, today, I took my license test and passed with flying colors.

What does all this mean?

PROJECT DAILY DRIVER IS NOW IN USE!

Thanks everyone for answering my noob questions! Time to go driving

This thread would be more entertaining if you didnt pass the test. But still, congrats!

Have fun on the road, but not too much fun.. at least not while cops are around! :jk:

Congrats, be safe out there and have fun.
I wish I had a 4Runner at 16!

Funny you say that, my first car at 17 (ok not 16 but close) was a '89 4Runner and within 8 months I wrapped it around a pole...yep I thought it was a race car. :redbrick: Lesson learned, now on my fourth 4runner and love them more then ever, and now I have a "summer" car to take to the track to get my speed requirements out of my system.

You don't really need to think of it as a race car to get into serious trouble.

I've owned a '73 Dodge Charger, a '65 Mustang, a '73 Camaro, a '73 Corvette, and currently own a '02 Audi TT Roadster (Turbocharged AWD)...but

The only car I've ever wrecked was my FIRST. 1978 Ford Pinto and all I thought was that the light would stay yellow just a little bit longer. And the other driver would wait for me and not the light. Wrong and Wrong. In case your unsure; intensive care IS NOT FUN. I'm thankful I can still walk and that I didn't kill the other driver.

Good luck with your new freedom and responsibility.

yeah me too, but the kid obviously has pride in it, he's been here for over a year working on it and putting time and effort into the truck, yeah sure mommy and daddy hooked him up, but some kids kind of deserve to be hooked up if they aren't acting like little **** heads and appreciate whats given to them, it's the kids who have this self entitlement and have never worked for anythign real before so they don't understand the value of things that really get me, i'm giving this guy a pass because he's been around here for a while, well at least a pass until he wraps it around a pole, lol , he seems like he's doing ok with the truck lets just see if he can make it through college without going to jail or knocking a girl up , hahaha j/k, i'm a a-hole....

Holy crap! a 4runner as your first vehicle! When i was 16, I had a $400 1991 Mitsubishi Galant that was all dented up. Plus it was an automatic!

This is awesome. Congratulations!

If you do wrap it around a pole, though, better have a stick ready to beat back all the vultures who'll want your parts!

BTW, dibs on your compressors... :hungry:

Totally agree. I've seen the OP's posts (since I lurk on here more than contribute) and can tell he is a responsible teenager. He's worked hard on getting his T4R to his liking and the pride he has for it shows. I'm just jealous I didn't make working on trucks a hobby when I was his age!

Reminds me of a kid at my high school. His dad gave him a fully restored black 1970 Mustang Mach I and he was super pissed because he wanted a Bronco. He ended up destroying the engine because he never checked or changed the oil and ended up running it dry.

Hepar, your post breaks my heart. I had a 65 Mustang that I loved and poured money into and some A-Hole in OB in San Diego stole it right out in front of my house when I was going to college. I just hope the car is still out there somewhere, bringing somebody joy. (Though this is the real world, and I'm sure that isn't the case).

And congrats to you 4RunningDaily. The women here in SoCal seem to like the lifted truck look, as my GF keeps telling me every time we drive together. Of course, I tell her I never notice:cheers:

One of the kids at my high school had a sweet restored Chevelle SS. BUILT 454, TH400 trans, black on black leather interior. He decided to be cool and do a neutral drop at 4500 rpms! When he slammed it into the drive the torque from the built engine totally ripped out the trans and rear end and he went NOWHERE! Long story short, his dad was super pissed at him and sold the car for like 1500 bucks!

I'd like to see the expression on his face haha!

Thanks Everyone for the nice words!

Haha, congrats on passing your test. Tyrone is gone but his new owner joined the forum. And my new one is a 5 speed too, just much cleaner.

I really like your enthusiasm for your truck. You and Fightman both ooze love for your 4R's.
