Wet carpet behind passenger seat and front seatbelt

I have been getting a wet carpet every time it rains. Ive been having this problem for awhile now, and just kind of put off trying to fix it. But lately its gotten worse. This morning after hard rain last night, the passenger front seatbelt was soaking wet, and the carpet right behind the passenger seat was wet too. I checked the sunroof drains and it looked clear.

Any other sources that could cause this? I do have a non-factory rack, but I sealed up the mounts as best I could with some black silicone. Thanks in advance

You either didn't seal well enough, OR it's the door seals. I doubt it's the sunroof, merely based on the area of leaking. It can't hurt to check though.

Hmm, I dont think its the door seal, the water seems to come down from the roof, as you can see the water marks all the way down the pillar. I guess that leaves the roof rack. I just wasnt sure if there was another place that it could be coming from.

Return with the results! (Most people never do, which is a shame, as very SIMILAR symptoms could be diagnosed quicker.)
 
Many years ago we have an F150 that would bring in some water in the front and got so bad it started to cause electrical problems in the dash, and I mean the sounds of crackling and everything. We had a new windshield installed before me moved to Virginia and it turned out to be the culprit. I called the company who installed it (For the record Dave's Auto Glass) and at first they didn't want to take responsibility for it. He told me why I didn't bring it to their attention before I moved to Virginia as its was about 3 months prior to moving. I told him that I don't believed it even rained before we moved and besides, Arizona rain isn't jack shit compared to the downpours in Virginia. I told him that it ended up costing me close to $300 to get a new one installed and he finally gave in and sent me a check. And I have used his company since returning to AZ. All the electrical issues went away after it dried up but the truck ended up catching on fire and burning down to the ground in the middle of the night because of the infamous Ford recall. Luckily my wife didn't park in the garage that evening. So don't under estimate the power of water and its ability to get in anywhere possible. Window and door seals would be my first suspicion....
 
Ill do some searching tomorrow on my truck. And ill be sure to post up what I find. Im glad my windshield has never been replaced, that sounds like a nightmare to deal with.

Have you had the windshield replaced recently? There are drain holes on both A pillars at the edge of the windshield glass. These are supposed to be sealed but oftentimes when a windshield gets replaced the installer won't put them back. Solution is to run extra sealant over the drain holes.

As far as diagnosing the issue...I'd pull the A pillar trim and sit inside while running a hose on the outside to see where it's coming in.

i just got the truck so i have no idea if it has been changed.....
i will give that a shot this weekend i will post back.....
the windshield trim must be removed to see the drain holes correct?
 
I got in my 06 runner this morning and put my seatbelt on, and the seatbelt was soaked. I felt the floor behind the seat and right on the bottom of the A pillar drivers side, and its dry. Anyone have a solution yet? I will check mine today if I have time, and I will let u guys know.

Ever figure anything out?
I've been having this problem with my 07. The first and worst symptom was the smell in the truck. Sort of a moldy wet smell. Only thing i did to the truck was remove the roof rack. I put the bolts back in. Then we eventually noticed the wet driver's side seat belt, but no other wet spots or stains.
 
Its most likely the roof rack, when i built mine i didn't put any kind of seals at first and had the same kind of leakage on the passenger and driver side with wet seat belts, headliner and carpet. Have you ever taken the roof rack off or replaced it with some thing else? If so i would recommend using a garden hose and soaking in a couple different spots to find the leak.
 
Yeah I figured out that one of the nutserts for the front roof rack bolt had fallen out. This basically left a big hole that let water go right on the the headliner. It would run down the a and b pillar making the carpet wet. I drilled out the hole and what was left of the nutsert and put a nut and bolt with some rubber washers through the whole thing. No more leaks finally.

Haven't been on here in a while...sorry just read this. I have not figured it out yet, but it rained again really hard and it was dry. I have no idea what is going on. All I know is when it was soaked, I ran pretty fast through some deep puddles, could have come up from the bottom? If so I have no idea where, weather stripping around the door seem fine.
 
The moldy wet smell is definitely a pain. Though I dont like to see this thread get posted to, the more folks that post get us closer to a final answer.

Is it safe to say that there are different methods of entry all leading to the underside of the drivers floorboard?
 
I meant to update this.....yeah, i removed the roof rack but didn't put in the rack delete kit, so water did get in around the roof liner and side near seat belt, etc. Dealer removed panels, cleaned up, and installed roof rack delete kit. Wife then got the car detailed, steam cleaned, etc. Put a dehumidify pack in the car too. Been a few weeks now. No more smell/funk.
